The distinction matters when a character takes the Dash action multiple times on the same turn through the use of features such as [[Action Surge]] or [[Cunning Action: Dash|Cunning Action]]. For instance, if a character with a speed of 30 ft uses Dash twice, their speed for that turn becomes 90 ft (30 + 30 + 30) rather than 120 ft (30 * 2 * 2).
