Head Clerk Meadhoney is the head clerk of the Counting House in the Lower City. He must be spoken to in order to legally gain access to the vaults.

Involvement

Upon speaking to Meadhoney at the front desk of the Counting House, a passive DC 10 Insight check will occur in the background. If successful, the party will realize that Meadhoney is rattled by something. When this is pointed out, Meadhoney will uneasily explain that a Minsc "large and heavily armed fellow" just led Rakath Glitterbeard Head Banker Glitterbeard down to the lower vaults and he is worried for him.

The party can then make a check to offer to go down there and see if everything is alright:

  • [PERSUASION] Let me help. I'll go and check on your Head Banker (DC 18)
  • [ROGUE] [PERSUASION] I'm something of a security expert. That sounds like a breach - why don't I go check? (DC 15)
  • [SORCERER] [PERSUASION] I wield magic with the ease of breathing - perhaps I could help? Maybe check on your Head Banker? (DC 15)
  • [HALF-ORC] [PERSUASION] I'm rather large and heavily armed myself. Why not let me check on your Head Banker, just to be safe? (DC 15)
  • [MONK] [PERSUASION] I can check on your banker. Your vaults are safe from me - I have no interest in gold. (DC 15)
  • [HALF-ORC] [INTIMIDATION] I'm rather heavily armed myself. I'll be heading down below, too. (DC 18)
  • [FIGHTER] [INTIMIDATION] I'm armed and far more dangerous - so I'll see myself downstairs. (DC 15)
  • [BARBARIAN] [INTIMIDATION] And everything will stay fine. So long as you let me down into your vault. (DC 15)
  • [EVIL CLERIC] [INTIMIDATION] Nothing is fine. This place is about to suffer a terrible curse - unless you let me down into the vault. (DC 15)

On a successful roll, Meadhoney will take them up on their offer and give them a temporary vault pass.

If failing the passive Insight check then they will need to ask Meadhoney for permission to enter the vaults. He refuses unless they spend 10,000 gold to buy an account and their own Vault Pass.

If Jaheira Jaheira is in the party, she can talk to Meadhoney about the individual who went down to the vaults. This allows several easier checks to gain a temporary vault pass when Meadhoney asks you who he is to you:

  • [INTIMIDATION] The absolute least of your problems if you don't shut up and let us pass. (DC 10)
  • [PERSUASION] A friend. He might do something stupid down there, but we can help. (DC 10)
  • [DECEPTION] A lord of Rashemen - and we are his servants. He's likely to pull his contract if we don't set up his banquet table soon. (DC 10)
