In Turn-based mode, every character has limited Resources each turn; generally one Action, one Bonus action, and one Reaction for interacting with their environment, and 7.5-10.5m (25-35ft) for navigating around it. There are a variety of items and class features that can grant additional resources, offering a potentially significant increase in effectiveness for one turn, entire combats, or passively for the rest of the game; this is a list of these sources of additional resources.
Common Resources[edit | edit source]
The following is a list of different types of "Haste", all of which are mutually exclusive; regardless of Condition, only one of these buffs/source of an additional Action may apply to any particular character at once.
- Since many will apply and require Concentration, attempting to re-apply the effect will generally result in concentration being broken, thus immediately applying Lethargic and causing the original target to lose their turn.
Effect | Condition | Source | Effect Duration | Limitation |
---|---|---|---|---|
+1 Action[note 1] | Potion of Speed | Duration: 3 turns | for Duration: 1 turn on effect end. | |
Fire Myrmidon ( )[note 2] | ||||
Duration: 10 turns | ||||
Scroll of Haste ( ) | ||||
Darkfire Shortbow ( ) | for Duration: 1 turn on effect end. Recharge: Long rest | |||
Gontr Mael ( ) | Duration: 5 turns | Recharge: Long rest | ||

Armour of the Sporekeeper ( ) | Surface created has Duration: 3 turns Recharge: Long rest | |||

Additionally, the following sources of additional resources are available:
Effect | Condition | Source | Effect Duration | Limitation |

+1 Action[note 1] | Elixir of Bloodlust | After killing an enemy. Duration: Until Long rest | ||

Restoring common resources[edit | edit source]
Normally, common resources are only replenished at the start of each turn, but there are a few scenarios where they can be replenished mid-turn:
- Action and Bonus action resources when entering combat. : Restores your
Instead of being Downed, one can "cheat death" via the effects in the chart below.
- When the player would normally hit 0 hit points, the "prevention" effect will end, and grant the player healing instead.
- While multiple effects can be active at once, the order of priority and stacking (or lack thereof) is not fully understood.
- When a character is "revived" this way, they fully restore their Resources (Action(s), Bonus action(s), Reaction(s), and Movement).
- This even applies if the character would be downed during their turn (such as from being in range of an explosion that they caused).
Condition | Source | Replacement Effect | Condition Duration | Limitation |
---|---|---|---|---|
3d4hit points | Duration: 3 turns | Recharge: Short rest | ||
The Reviving Hands (Aegis Palms) | 1hit points | Duration: 2 turns | Applies to targets Healed. | |

Spell slots[edit | edit source]
Creating slots[edit | edit source]
In addition to those gained from normal class progression, spell slots can also be granted by the following sources:
Source | Spell Slot Level | Limitation |
---|---|---|
Shield of Devotion | While equipped. | |
Shield of the Undevout | ||
Spell Savant Amulet | ||
Elixir of Arcane Cultivation | Duration: Until Long rest | |

Supreme Elixir of Arcane Cultivation | ||
or lower | Sorcery Points | |
Consumed Shadow Weave | alt= 1 Level Shadow Spell Slots.png class=bg3wiki-icon | Recharge: Long rest |
Ignoring cost(s)[edit | edit source]
Alternatively, some actions allow for the casting of a single spell without expending the corresponding slot, though you must already have the spell learned/prepared, and a slot of the corresponding level (even if it has already been depleted).

Restoring slots[edit | edit source]
One can also restore expended slots (a used spell slot of a particular level; this will not have any effect when all slots are available, or the character does not have any slots) via the following methods:

Resting[edit | edit source]
Most resources are only recovered via Resting, though some alternative options exist:
There are additional features ingame which function similarly to taking a rest;
- The level 2 Bard feature functions identically to a short rest.
- Potion of Angelic Reprieve functions as a short rest (in addition to recovering all expended and Spell Slots), if the character consuming it is left asleep, uninterrupted, for 2 turns.
- Potion of Angelic Slumber functions as a long rest, if the character consuming it is left asleep, uninterrupted, for 2 turns.
- restores the party as if they took a long rest, revives any downed party members, and can even be used in combat. However, any form of Divine Intervention can only be used once per character in the entire game.
- Using a Restoration Pod found aboard the Nautiloid in the prologue or the Mindflayer colony in Act Two, or the boudoir in the House of Hope in Act Three will restore the party as if they took a long rest, without ending relevant effects like or Elixirs.
