Dialogue in Baldur's Gate 3 occurs overhead when travelling and when interacting with certain characters. Interacting with most characters will open up a dialogue cutscene, where the player is provided with questions to ask and responses to give. The game has lot of reactivity to player choice. A players choice of Class and Race frequently open up new conversation options. The game may also give you new dialogue options based on discoveries made in game.

Occasionally an conversation option includes a Skill Check. Typically this will be using the Skills of Persuasion to persuade a character, Intimidation to intimidate them, or Insight to ascertain their motives. Sometimes a player will rely on other skills, like History to recall relevant background information to an ongoing conversation. Some spells can also be cast during dialogue, such as Guidance. Some spells, like Friends or Detect Thoughts might be frowned upon if discovered.

A player can view their recent Dialogue History in the Journal. Here they will find a transcript of recent conversations.

Dialogue Pages on the Wiki

Here on the Baldur's Gate 3 wiki, pages that record the dialogue can be roughly categorized into three categories: Banter, Remarks, and Transcripts.

  • Banter describes overhead conversations between two or more characters that happen outside of cutscenes.
  • Remarks are one-line remarks on the world or when interacting with certain objects. In most cases, remarks are added to the relevant page or at the start of a characters banter page.
  • Transcripts record the often branching conversations that occur during cutscenes.

Banter
