== Overview ==
By the time party reaches [[Act Three]] locations, Peartree is already dead and his home is a restricted area.

===Upper Room===
The entrance to Peartree House is located close the huge outdoor staircase ({{Coords|32|-96}}), near [[Felogyr's Fireworks]] and the back wall of the [[Sorcerous Sundries]]. The doors are nailed up with wooden boards, and a [[Flaming Fist]] 'Area under Investigation' triangle stand in front of entrance informs that the area is restricted. However, there are no Fists or coroners inside. In the mailbox a {{SmRarityItem|Soul Coin}} can be found.

The staircase and nearby streets are patrolled by a group of Flaming Fists accompanied by a [[Steel Watcher]], which all will become temporarily hostile if spot the party damaging the barricade or entering Peartree House. Using means of {{SAI|Invisibility}} or spells like {{SAI|Fog Cloud}} is recommended.

Inside the house the party shall see already familiar crime scene: the corpse of [[Franc Peartree]] without a hand, and a bloody symbol of the Absolute daubed on the wall. The only thing that can be looted from Peartree's corpse is a note that claims poor man was killed for helping ''the lordling''. As the party already knows, this disdainful sobriquet is used by {{CharLink|Orin|Orin the Red}} when speaking of {{CharLink|Enver Gortash}}.

{{SAI|Speak with Dead}} spell cast on Peartree's corpse shall not reveal anything important other than that he had been working as a cook at [[Basilisk Gate Barracks]] at some time in the past.
The only room is rather simply furbished and has poor loot around it. In the far corner, under the bench lies a copy of {{SmRarityItem|Bloodstained Parchment}} with the list of murder targets. It requires a {{Ability check|Perception|0}}, so any member of the party shall spot it at once. Through {{Quest|Investigate the Murders}} it is revealed later on that Franc Peartree was murdered by {{CharLink|Dolor}} a {{CharLink|Bhaal|Cultist of Bhaal}}, who wants to become an Unholy Assassin of Bhaal.

However, near the bench is a hatch leading to actually important part of Peartree House. It is covered by Traveller's Chest, which has to be moved aside to gain access. The hatch is locked {{Ability check|Sleight of Hand|15}}, but one of the bookcases in the opposite corner contains a key ({{SmRarityItem|Peartree's Hatch Key}}).
Another {{Ability check|Perception}} (this time DC 20) is required to find some loose planks in the floor, where {{SmRarityItem|Peartree's Chest Key}} is hidden (see below).

===Peartree Basement===

Upon descending into the basement, the party will discover another crime scene - this time, of the ritual murder.

The basement consists of the study to the south of ladder and small workshop to the east. <ref>Two letters from Gortash can be found in the basement. Both show that Franc Peartree was blackmailed by the Archduke nominee into distributing weapons and armour for Archduke's network. Other books around the room suggest that the house owner studied deeply the matters of infernal planes and bargaining with their inhabitants.</ref>.

In the study (turned into the sacrifice chamber) lies the dead body of [[Courageous Little Kimmabeth]], a human who is clearly higher and more heavyset than average man. He is gutted, with intestines drawn all over the floor, and his heart is burning with magical green fire in a brazier. Kimmabeth can be looted of one of the Orin's Ritual Letters, {{SmRarityItem|Yaga-Shura, the Second}}, and a {{SmRarityItem|Clown's Severed Arm}} (an item for {{Quest|Find Dribbles the Clown}} quest). Also, a {{SmRarityItem|Longsword +1}} can be pulled out of his body. Further in the study lies another dead body. 

The workshop has several stands with many weapons (all common, except Longsword +1) lying around and some pieces of armour (common, too). In the far corner stands [[Wooden Chest]] with some gold inside. On the desk lays an {{SmRarityItem|Enhanced' Weapons - Sales Ledger}} that sheds some light on Gortash's covert trade operations. In the southern wall of this room is a built-in [[Strongbox]] (opened with Peartree's Chest Key or with a {{Ability check|Sleight of Hand|15}}). It contains the most notable loot in the cellar: a {{SmRarityItem|Half Plate Armour +2}}, a {{SmRarityItem|Shortsword +2}}, and two {{SmRarityItem|Soul Coin|Soul Coins}}.
