Somewhere in there is another condition that causes Rolan to leave Last Light. I suspect it is either a Long Rest count after speaking to Rolan or the Drider event. It ultimately doesn't matter since he won't die unless you get close enough to where he is (I think), but it's worth noting that Resolve the Abduction is '''not''' a prerequisite for Rolan's event.

As silly as this may sound, it seems like Shadowheart's re-recruitment (after the Prologue) is time-sensitive. After the Nautiloid crash, if you go to camp (not even take a Long Rest, just go to camp), Shadowheart will disappear from the beach.
I found this out the hard way, since if you purchased the Digital Deluxe Edition the game will pop up a tutorial message to notify you that you have some items waiting for you in camp right after you wake up from the crash. I went to get my items and was unable to find Shadowheart on the beach. Just to make sure, I reloaded the autosave, walked up next to Shadowheart, and entered and exited camp, and she disappeared right in front of me. Act II, Rolan Leaving Last Light Conditions

Rolan left Last Light before I completed Resolve the Abduction, so there must be a second potential start condition. I wanted to get Halsin asap, and bumrushed his quest. Here is exactly what I did once I entered the Shadowlands:

  1. Entered from Grimforge elevator.
  2. Long Rested.
  3. Beelined toward the Shadow ambush on the Harper group.
  4. Went to Last Light Inn, interacted with almost every NPC including Rolan. Did not talk to Jaheira and join her for a drink. Did not meet with Isobel.
  5. Beelined toward the Drider ambush event without Harper support. Killed them and took the lamp. Freed the pixie.
  6. Beelined toward the House of Healing.
  7. Long Rested.
  8. Entered and completed the House of Healing.
  9. Returned to Last Light Inn to wake up the guy in a coma. Did not check on Rolan - he may have already been gone.
  10. Protected Halsin's portal.
  11. Returned to Last Light to sell junk. Noticed Rolan was missing.

Somewhere in there is another condition that causes Rolan to leave Last Light. I suspect it is either a Long Rest count after speaking to Rolan or the Drider event. It ultimately doesn't matter since he won't die unless you get close enough to where he is (I think), but it's worth noting that Resolve the Abduction is not a prerequisite for Rolan's event.

Shadowheart (re-)Recruitment
