Act II, Rolan Leaving Last Light Conditions
Rolan left Last Light before I completed Resolve the Abduction, so there must be a second potential start condition. I wanted to get Halsin asap, and bumrushed his quest. Here is exactly what I did once I entered the Shadowlands:
- Entered from Grimforge elevator.
- Long Rested.
- Beelined toward the Shadow ambush on the Harper group.
- Went to Last Light Inn, interacted with almost every NPC including Rolan. Did not talk to Jaheira and join her for a drink. Did not meet with Isobel.
- Beelined toward the Drider ambush event without Harper support. Killed them and took the lamp. Freed the pixie.
- Beelined toward the House of Healing.
- Long Rested.
- Entered and completed the House of Healing.
- Returned to Last Light Inn to wake up the guy in a coma. Did not check on Rolan - he may have already been gone.
- Protected Halsin's portal.
- Returned to Last Light to sell junk. Noticed Rolan was missing.
Somewhere in there is another condition that causes Rolan to leave Last Light. I suspect it is either a Long Rest count after speaking to Rolan or the Drider event. It ultimately doesn't matter since he won't die unless you get close enough to where he is (I think), but it's worth noting that Resolve the Abduction is not a prerequisite for Rolan's event.
Even just talking to him at the bar and then immediately teleporting down to the Shadowed Battlefield-waypoint causes him to get ambushed. Not even a long rest in between. Initially I believed it was because I briefly went into the darker shadows at the tollhouse but even without collecting the XP there, he still moves. Did some further testing and just barely moving outside the safety dome at the Inn (to the graves in the north) is enough to make Rolan take off into the dark. I believe what the page is talking about anyway is approaching him in the Ruined Battlefield but not resolving his fight, if you just long rest then he's presumably dead?
Shadowheart (re-)Recruitment
As silly as this may sound, it seems like Shadowheart's re-recruitment (after the Prologue) is time-sensitive. After the Nautiloid crash, if you go to camp (not even take a Long Rest, just go to camp), Shadowheart will disappear from the beach.
I found this out the hard way, since if you purchased the Digital Deluxe Edition the game will pop up a tutorial message to notify you that you have some items waiting for you in camp right after you wake up from the crash. I went to get my items and was unable to find Shadowheart on the beach. Just to make sure, I reloaded the autosave, walked up next to Shadowheart, and entered and exited camp, and she disappeared right in front of me. Willach (talk) 19:44, 2 November 2023 (CET)
Dying Illithid
Length of Time: Entering the Shattered Sanctum. The goblins steal the illithid's corpse for Dror Ragzlin to commune with.
In my playthrough the Illithid's corpse was stolen before I got anywhere near the goblin camp.
Withers moves to camp automatically
I don't know the exact timeframe but when I went to camp in the Underdark without doing Withers quest he just showed up in camp. It doesn't result in any loss of items/exp but it is a quest/dialogue that you miss out on.
Current game patch: 2023-12-21 4.1.1.4251417 Hotfix #15 - Proof that Long Rests can currently affect the Rite of Thorns completion under certain circumstances: In the grove, go into the little back chamber area where Kagha is. Attack her, early on, before proving she's evil, outside of that quest to do so. She and numerous other druids will go aggro, and some will run away to alert the camp. Kill her and all the druids that went aggro on you. Then while still in this back room, select to Long Rest. This Long Rest at this point will cause the Rite of Thorns to be completed. - Mieumieu
