In the southeast section of the Necrotic Lab area of the Mind Flayer Colony, there is a console. Interacting with the console using your Illithid powers will project an empty neural map of one of the brains the Mind Flayers have been experimenting on. The neural map is basically a connect the dots puzzle- solving it will allow you to access the Waking Mind, which can be inserted into The Mind-Archive Interface at X: 699 Y: -117 in order to gain the permanent buff: Githzerai Mind Barrier.

Puzzle Solution[edit | edit source]

Solving the puzzle requires you to connect the four colored centers of the brain: Speech, Emotion, Memory, and Reason, to corresponding spots on the opposite side of the web of Neural Nodes. Begin by selecting one of the four centers, then selecting each of the nodes you want to connect it to until you've created a linked path reaching the corresponding center on the opposite side. Note: each brain center has its own individual path to the other side. The paths weave in between each other, but never use the same node.

Use the bird's eye view of the puzzle solution (shown from left to right) to solve. It doesn't matter which order you chart the paths in, so long as you do them one by one.

Once solved, a door will open to an area containing the Waking Mind.

Inserting the Waking Mind into the Mind-Archive Interface will prompt a dialogue with the mind of a Githzerai who asks you to purge their brain in exchange for their knowledge. If playing as a Warlock, you may get an additional dialogue where you sense your Patron warning you against trusting the Githzerai, allowing you to question the mind further about the circumstances leading up to their imprisonment in the Mind Flayer Colony. If you choose to purge their mind, you gain the Githzerai Mind Barrier condition, which gives you advantage on all intelligence saving throws.
