The poison vents turn off when a character wearing the Whispering Mask steps near them, I'm not sure if that also disarms the traps.--89.176.167.243 01:10, 25 January 2024 (CET)
Initiating conversation with Ethel when her health is low edit
One section of this article notes "Ethel will initiate conversation with whoever is closest to her" which I found to be 100% inaccurate on several attempts. My avatar character is not all that Charismatic so I explicitly kept him far from Ethel as I ground her into the ground. I had a barbarian character closest laying into her to hopefully trigger the conversation and allow a lower DC check on intimidation. No dice ... save scumming ensued to get my -1 charisma avatar (the only character Ethel would initiate with) with guidance to finally nail the 20 DC check. Something not working there if she's meant to speak with the closest character. 84.239.50.2 03:26, 20 January 2025 (CET)
- It sounds like what you're saying is Ethel only speaks with the lead PC when brought near death? Raelin (talk) 03:34, 20 January 2025 (CET)
- Yeah, I had the same results, except when my PC was knocked out my barbarian was the conversationalist and I got the option. 87.120.102.118 03:28, 3 February 2025 (CET)
Mayrina's trinket (medalion) edit
Where can it be used? It is marked as a quest item so i think it should be used somewhere at least. Tho i doubt it allows to let us kill Ethel, show this trinket to brothers and save them that way or something, people would already know that than, right? 176.59.21.229 13:07, 19 February 2025 (CET)
Interesting fact, silence prevents dialogue, duuuh edit
But ig any experienced BG or DnD player already knows it 176.59.21.229 14:20, 19 February 2025 (CET)
Oathbreaker edit
Making a deal with the hag as a Paladin of Vengeance breaks your oath. Not worth it for the hair IMO. 174.92.54.227 07:41, 14 July 2025 (CEST)
Brothers dead vs. at Sutton Farm if they were sided with edit
I have seen very few mentions of this in all my searching (including in this very wiki), so I'm including this here for anybody who's interested in not having Mayrina's brothers die.
As of patch 8 hotfix 34, during the conversation with the brothers after siding with them, it appears that only the dialogue option "Let me - I'll bring Mayrina home." results in both brothers corpses spawning near the Riverside Teahouse waypoint; the other two options, "You're on your own. I have enough problems." and "I'm sorry. I wish you luck in finding her.", results in no corpses and Auntie Ethel claiming Mayrina's brothers are at Sutton Farm.
This stands in contrast to the wiki's (current) claim that "If not fighting with the brothers, they leave for Ethel's teahouse, where the party can later discover their corpses." 76.169.21.85 00:48, 27 September 2025 (CEST)
- As far as I can tell, what's happening here is the following.
- If you side with the brothers or stay neutral (i.e. don't fight them) then there are only two possibilities:
- They walk off and die, and you find their bodies.
- They walk off and die, but you don't spot their bodies: In this case Ethel claims they're in Sutton Farm. It's a lie.
- Sometimes, a glitch may prevent their bodies from spawning, so you can't find them. (Or some players just miss them, I'm not sure. May be related to long resting as well.) Players to whom this happens then think they managed to have them spared, but that is not the case; Ethel is just lying.
- If you side with the brothers or stay neutral (i.e. don't fight them) then there are only two possibilities:
- The above is confirmed by a "NodeContext" entry in the dialogue where Sutton Farm is mentioned. (These are basically instructions for the voice actors.) The context explains that Ethel did in fact kill them and is lying: NodeContext: (to player) A sharp rebuttal (you've actually killed the brothers but don't want Mayrina to know). You're placing the blame on the player to divert the situation.
- There is a way to spare their life, canonically, which requires you to side with Ethel when confronting the brothers, and then knocking them out with a non-lethal attack. (Note: You must side with Ethel. Later dialogue will explicitly check for this!) If these criteria are fulfilled, then you can later tell Mayrina that you knocked them out and didn't kill them. However, in what is probably a dev oversight, the quest log entry that's generated by this dialogue choice is a copy of the one when you kill them or find their bodies, and states that they're dead, contradicting what you just told Mayrina. So although the quest log will state they're dead, I'd say that's clearly a game dev oversight and they are canonically alive in this situation. A bit sad that the only way to save them is to meta-game and intentionally side with Ethel. Taylan (talk) 17:27, 3 November 2025 (CET)
