- Normally, this item remains in a party member's inventory only until the Illithid Power skill tree is unlocked. However, even after this - if, when picked up, a specimen is sent directly to a hireling's inventory, it remains there until sent to the inventory of a party member who has already been tadpoled.
- Recruiting Minthara, who already makes use of illithid powers, also unlocks the skill tree.
- After the first Mind Flayer Parasite Specimen is consumed, future parasites can be stolen in broad daylight. Even when a party member is caught stealing, the Mind Flayer Parasite Specimen is consumed the before they can be accused. Then the theft can be denied without any check.[Needs Verification]
