Down a flight of stairs from the entrance is the writing floor of the Gazette. The editor in chief, Ettvard Needle, is found here, pacing around his desk. Behind him is his private office, which contains a Documents Chest with a Ink-Spattered Key which opens the metal door to the basement.

Basement
Basement
The basement can be accessed through a locked metal door leading down a flight of stairs from the newsroom, or through an elevator on the ground level of the building. There are two hostile Steel Watchers patrolling this area; it is possible to travel unseen by sneaking and using turn-based mode.

On the northern side of the basement are two rooms which are separated internally by a breakable wooden barrier. In the western room are two article blocks needed for the quest Stop the Presses. Make Big Money by Trading with Adventurers, found inside a wicker basket, creates a positive article for the party.

On the western side is a darkroom, where new Heroic Portrait of Gortash posters are being developed. As well, there is a less positive article block.

The Baldur's Mouth is the main location for resolving this quest. In the newsroom, the player can speak to Ettvard to ask about Gazette's next issue. Ettvard will reveal that it is defamatory, and will refuse the player's request to pull the article (or make the article worse, if playing as the Dark Urge). Speaking to Ettvard will get the party thrown out, or start a fight, forcing them to sneak into the basement to continue.
The article block can be replaced by travelling to the basement, either through the metal door leading down from the newsroom, or through the elevator on the ground floor. After reaching the printing press, the player will discover that it is being automated by a pixie; Jelliwig, who can be persuaded to replace the block, or will offer to do so if the player freed Dolly Thrice.
