| notes = * The blade can be equipped in either the main hand or the off hand, and can be unequipped, but must stay on the spellcaster's person. The blade has no [[Weapon Actions]] tied to it other than basic attack.
** However, having the hireling [[Danton]] cast the spell, immediately recalling his soul, and hiring him again will create a permanent [[Flame Blade (weapon)|Flame Blade]] that can be wielded by any other party member; this version of the blade performs up to (5d6 + Strength modifier) [[Fire]] damage and is the only [[scimitar]] without the [[finesse]] property.
* The blade uses the spellcaster's [[Spells#Spellcasting_Ability_and_Proficiency|Spellcasting Ability]] ([[Wisdom]] for [[Druid]]s or Charisma for [[Tiefling]]s) for {{Attack Roll}}s instead of [[Strength]] or [[Dexterity]], but as with most spell attacks no modifier is added to the [[Damage Roll]].
** Note that when learned as a Druid, the caster's current Spellcasting Ability is the Spellcasting Ability of the class the caster most recently took a first level in, and so is not necessarily always Wisdom.
** Charisma will always be the spellcasting ability for the version learned by Tieflings.
* When the spell ends, the caster will automatically re-equip the weapon they had equipped when they cast the spell, without costing an Action Point.
* If the caster is wielding a Light weapon in their main hand (or has the Dual Wielder feat and is wielding a non-Two-Handed weapon in their main hand), the blade will be dual wielded with that main-hand weapon:
** If the caster was already wielding a weapon in their off hand when the spell was cast, the blade will replace that off hand weapon. When the spell ends like this (with the blade in the off hand), the weapon that was previously in the off hand will NOT be re-equipped, and the off hand is left empty.
** If instead the off hand was empty when the spell was cast, the blade will be summoned in the main hand, and the weapon that was previously equipped in the main hand will be moved to the off hand. When the spell ends like this, that original weapon will be moved back to the main hand, with the off hand now empty.
* The incantation for Flame Blade is ''para bellum'', Latin for "prepare for war".
