Talk:Halsin/Romance
Revision battle[edit source]
It seems there is one user who is determined to keep fan speculation on a wiki page. Their speculation is that Shadowheart is envious of the player if they kiss Halsin. The line in question is: "My... some bard could write a stirring love poem about you two. Or a lewd tavern ballad, perhaps." when the player kisses Halsin. I looked at the datamined files for this line and the writer left a devnote that directed the actress to sound "playful" on this line, aka its supposed to be a joke. Now, the voice actress did say the line with a bit of an attitude (and didn't come across as all that playful), but her motive for doing this (and going off script) is unclear.
Maybe the actress is jealous of HALSIN, and not the player? It's hard to say. Was this line written before polyamory was written in? Again who knows. But to use this as "proof" that Shadowheart must have a crush on Halsin is again, highly speculative. The portion of the text should be deleted. Keeping it in makes the wiki feel more like a fanfiction site than a source of objective information. Duckwalk (talk) 02:02, 18 November 2025 (CET)
- For anyone joining in, Duckwalk is referring to Node 258. in Dialogs/Companions/Halsin_InParty.
- As for my two cents, there are rock solid facts (e.g. Withers is Jergal) and there is rectum-derived speculation (e.g. Halsin is actually a Bear disguised as an elf). But as in life, most things are somewhere in between. Some degree of speculation is appropriate, and sometimes even neccisary (see: Gorion Mausoleum#Notes). The key is to make it clear what is fact, what is speculation, what facts a given speculation is based on, and how solidly it is supported. The current phrasing in this article is a little definitive for my liking (I'd at least change it to "perhaps with a hint of envy" or "with what could be interpreted as a hint of envy"), but Shadowheart's attraction towards/lust for Halsin is fairly well documented (see: node 133. Act3/Wyrm/WYR_DapperDrow_Intimacy). Capranaut (talk) 03:12, 18 November 2025 (CET)
- My problem here is the authorial intent versus the performance from the actress. As far as authorial intent goes, the line was supposed to be a cheeky joke and nothing more. The writer put "playful" on the dialog node. Despite this, the actress decided to perform the line somewhat angrily. This is some speculation of my own, but Jennifer English has only publicly supported WLW pairings for Shadowheart, so to me, it seems unlikely that she went off script in order to make Shadowheart sound envious of the player. I don't know her reasoning for performing the line that way, but it seems inappropriate for a fan to force their own interpretation into the wiki . Duckwalk (talk) 16:15, 18 November 2025 (CET)
- Imho the discussed part of the text can be kept but should be moved to a notes section. Hawkeye (talk) 15:16, 21 November 2025 (CET)
