Bg3.wiki is an unofficial fan wiki for the video game Baldur's Gate 3 by Larian Studios. Any copyrighted works (text, code, images, and so on, collectively referred to as "content") published on bg3.wiki are dual-licensed under Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International (CC BY-SA 4.0) and Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0), unless otherwise stated, with additional exceptions described on this page.

Content published on bg3.wiki prior to July 20, 2024 were licensed exclusively under CC BY-NC-SA 4.0, unless otherwise stated. Bg3.wiki is in the process of acquiring the consent of past contributors to dual-license these works under CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 and CC BY-SA 4.0.

Content on bg3.wiki that is not published under a Creative Commons license is either specifically licensed to the wiki by the copyright holder, or uploaded under a different license as noted in that content's description, or used by the wiki for strictly informative, illustrative, or educational purposes as detailed in the next paragraph.

Some content on bg3.wiki is not available under a license that expressly permits commercial use. This applies to content that is exclusively published under the CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 license or any other license that does not permit commercial use, as well as content that is the exclusive property of Larian Studios, Wizards of the Coast, or any other author, and not released by its author under a license that permits commercial use. The primary purpose of using such content on bg3.wiki is to ensure the quality of information freely provided by the website. Although bg3.wiki may earn income from visitations to the website by means of displaying advertisement in the margins of web pages, the use of any content not available under a license expressly permitting commercial use is not intended for commercial advantage, but rather to ensure the availability of free, accurate, complete, and high-quality information about Baldur's Gate 3 to the public. As such, any visitor of bg3.wiki is free to disable the display of advertisement on the website through any means available to them. This is easy to achieve, for example, by creating an account which is completely free, or by installing a freely available ad blocking web browser extension such as uBlock Origin, AdBlock, or AdBlockPlus.

Some content used on bg3.wiki may be governed by Larian Studios' Fan Content Policy, the Baldur's Gate 3 Fan Content Terms, and / or Wizards of the Coast's Fan Content Policy, which may put additional limitations on their use as explained on the linked pages, in addition to the terms of any license or licenses that those works are otherwise available under.

Copyright information for contributors

When creating new pages or editing existing pages on bg3.wiki, or uploading files to bg3.wiki, any new content (original text, image, or other such creation of your own work) that you submit is dual-licensed to bg3.wiki under Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International (CC BY-SA 4.0) and Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0).

Any such submission prior to the date July 20, 2024 was licensed to bg3.wiki exclusively under CC BY-NC-SA 4.0. Any submission after that date, which is a derivative work of such a submission prior to that date, is also licensed exclusively under CC BY-NC-SA 4.0, as required by that license's terms, unless the author(s) of the original submission agree to dual-license their work under CC BY-SA 4.0, at which point the derivative work later submitted by you also becomes dual-licensed under CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 and CC BY-SA 4.0. You agree to this later dual-licensing of any derivative work you submit, which at the time of your submission may be licensed exclusively under CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 due to limitations of the original work's license, and you understand that your derivative work will additionally become available under CC BY-SA 4.0 as soon as the author(s) of the original work agree to the dual-licensing.

If you are the author of submissions that were licensed exclusively under CC BY-NC-SA 4.0, and you have not yet agreed to the dual-licensing of your work under CC BY-SA 4.0, please contact bg3.wiki or see the page Contributor Payment. You may receive compensation in exchange for your agreement to dual-license your past submissions and all derivative works thereof, or demand your past submissions and derivative works thereof to be removed if that is your wish. Such requests for removal will be honored not due to legal necessity but out of good faith to past contributors.

If you submit any content to bg3.wiki that is not your original work, you must ensure that you have permission to publish said content and must ensure that you abide by the licensing terms of the content you submit.

Copyright information for users

If you wish to reuse content published on bg3.wiki that is the work of one of the site's contributors, and the content in question was submitted to bg3.wiki on or after the date July 20, 2024 and is not a derivative work of content published prior to that date, then you may reuse said content under the license Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0), or the license Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International (CC BY-SA 4.0), or a license that is compatible with either of those two licenses, unless otherwise noted on the page describing the content in question.

If you wish to reuse content published on bg3.wiki that is the work of one of the site's contributors, and the content in question was submitted to bg3.wiki prior to the date July 20, 2024 or is a derivative work of such a submission, and bg3.wiki has not yet acquired agreement from the original author(s) to dual-license the content under CC BY-SA 4.0, then the content must be reused exclusively under the license CC BY-NC-SA 4.0.

To protect the anonymity of contributors who have agreed to the dual-licensing contract under bg3wiki:Payment, a list of them is not publicly available. As such, if you wish to use content from bg3.wiki under the CC BY-SA 4.0 (allowing commercial use) but cannot determine whether it is available under that license, then please contact bg3.wiki to receive appropriate instructions of reuse.

If the content you wish to reuse is Fan Content based on copyrighted works of Larian Studios or Wizards of the Coast, then you must also respect corresponding terms and policies, such as Larian Studios' Fan Content Policy, the Baldur's Gate 3 Fan Content Terms, and / or Wizards of the Coast's Fan Content Policy.

You must also respect any other licenses used on the wiki as noted on corresponding pages.

Crediting the wiki

In order to properly credit content authored by contributors of bg3.wiki and released under one of the Creative Commons licenses that demand attribution, please do one or more of the following:

  • Back-linking (text pieces of any length)
  • Shout-out with a link on screen (media of any length)
  • Link in a description text (media of any length)
  • Link as a pinned comment (media of any length)
  • Link in any captions or alt-text (images)

For collaborative content whose exact authorship is difficult to determine, such as text on wiki pages that was altered by many contributors over time, it is sufficient to link to the wiki page from which the content was taken.

When using content whose exact authorship is easy to determine, such as an image file authored and uploaded to the wiki by a certain contributor, then that specific author should be attributed to ensure compliance with the attribution clause of the Creative Commons license under which the content is reused.
