Bg3.wiki is an unofficial fan wiki for the video game Baldur's Gate 3 by Larian Studios. Any copyrighted works (text, code, images, etc.) published on bg3.wiki are licensed under Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International (CC BY-SA 4.0) and Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0), unless otherwise stated, with additional exceptions described on this page.

Copyrighted works published on bg3.wiki prior to July 20, 2024 were only licensed under CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 unless otherwise stated. Bg3.wiki is in the process of acquiring the consent of past contributors to re-license these works to the aforementioned CC BY-SA 4.0 license.

The primary purpose of continuing to host content licensed under CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 during the above mentioned process is to ensure the quality of information freely provided by bg3.wiki. Although bg3.wiki may earn income from visitations to the website by means of displaying advertisement in the margins of web pages, the continued use of older content licensed under CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 is not primarily intended for commercial advantage, but rather to ensure the availability of free, accurate, complete, and high-quality information about Baldur's Gate 3 to the public. Any visitor of bg3.wiki can avoid the display of advertisement by means of creating a free account, or installing a freely available ad blocking web browser extension such as AdBlock, AdBlockPlus, or uBlock Origin.

Some copyrighted works reused on bg3.wiki are posted or uploaded under the Larian Studios' Fan Content Policy. These are used strictly for informative, illustrative, or educational purposes.

Any copyrighted works on bg3.wiki that are not published under a Creative Commons license are either uploaded under the Larian Studios' Fan Content Policy, are licensed to the wiki by the copyright holder, or are uploaded under a different license as noted in that copyrighted work's description.

Copyright information for contributors

When creating new pages or editing existing pages on bg3.wiki, or uploading files to bg3.wiki, any new copyrighted work (original text, image, or other such creation of your own work) that you submit is licensed to bg3.wiki under Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International (CC BY-SA 4.0), as well as under Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0).

Any such submission prior to the date July 20, 2024 was only licensed to bg3.wiki under CC BY-NC-SA 4.0. Any submission after that date, which is a derivative work of such a submission prior to that date, is also licensed under CC BY-NC-SA 4.0, as is required by that license, unless the author(s) of the original submission agree to re-license their work under CC BY-SA 4.0, at which point the later derivative work also becomes dual-licensed under CC BY-SA 4.0. You agree to this later dual-licensing of any derivative work you submit, which at the time of your submission may be licensed only under CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 due to the requirements of that license, and understand that your derivative work will additionally become available under CC BY-SA 4.0 as soon as the author(s) of the original work agree to the re-licensing.

If you are the author of submissions that were licensed under CC BY-NC-SA 4.0, and you have not yet agreed to the re-licensing of your work under CC BY-SA 4.0, please contact bg3.wiki. You may receive compensation in exchange for your agreement to re-license your past submissions and all derivative works thereof, or demand your past submissions and derivative works thereof to be removed.

If you submit any content to bg3.wiki that is not your original work, you must ensure that you have permission to publish said content and must ensure that you abide by the licensing terms of the content you submit.

Copyright information for users

If you wish to reuse content published on bg3.wiki that is the work of one of the site's contributors, you must do so under the license Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International (CC BY-SA 4.0) or a compatible license, if the content in question was submitted to bg3.wiki on or after July 20, 2024 and is not a derivative work of content published prior to that date.

If you wish to reuse content published on bg3.wiki that is the work of one of the site's contributors, and the content in question was submitted to bg3.wiki prior to the date July 20, 2024 or is a derivative work of such a submission, and bg3.wiki has not yet acquired agreement from the original author(s) to re-license the content under CC BY-SA 4.0, then the content must be reused under the license Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0).

You must also respect any other licenses used on the wiki as noted on corresponding pages.

Larian Studios' Fan Content Policy

The Larian Studios' Fan Content Policy is quoted as follows:

"We greatly value interaction with our community and you keep surprising us with the projects you come up with (Fan Content).

We are getting a lot of questions about what you can or can’t do with Larian Studios’ intellectual property (IP). While we tend to be liberal about what we allow, we do need to set some boundaries to protect our interests.

So here are the 5 guidelines we ask you to live/work/create by:

1. Keep it FREE. You can use Larian Studios’ IP (except for the restrictions listed in #3) to make Fan Content you share with the community for free. Free means:

  • You can’t require payments, surveys, downloads, subscriptions, or email registration to access your Fan Content;
  • You can’t sell or license your Fan Content to any third parties for any type of compensation; and
  • Your Fan Content must be free for others (including Larian Studios) to view, access, share, and use without paying you anything or seeking your permission.

To be clear, we don’t have a problem with you taking advantage of sponsorships, ad revenue, and donations—so long as:

  • You don’t use a sponsor that would be harmful to Larian Studios, like endorsing offensive or polarizing sponsors;
  • You make it clear (verbally or visually) that they are acting as a sponsor only;
  • You do not associate Larian Studios with your sponsor in any way; and
  • The sponsoring does not interfere with the community’s access to your Fan Content.

2. Keep it clear it’s FAN Content. When sharing your creations, don’t create confusion about the nature of your work. Make sure it’s clear, that your content is not endorsed or sponsored by Larian Studios—i.e. its unofficial.

3. Keep it honest. Respect people’s IP, both ours and that of others.

This means, we ask you:

  • Not to use Larian Studios’ logos and trademarks.
  • Not to tinker with the legal notices in our creations. If the Larian Studios IP you are incorporating into your Fan Content already has copyright notices, logos, trademarks, or other notices existing within it, don’t remove them;
  • Not to use our IP in other games. This includes your own or other people’s games or game components (e.g. rule books, tokens, figures), regardless of whether it is distributed for free;
  • Don’t use Larian Studios’ Video or Music in your Fan Content. Simply embedding a video from an authorized third-party’s website (e.g., Twitch or YouTube) is ok though.

As well as to:

  • Refrain from using other people’s stuff in your Content. If we learn that your Fan Content also includes other people’s IP (e.g., crossovers/mashups) without their permission, we may ask you to take it down.

4. Keep it clean. We reserve the right to stop or restrict your use of Larian Studios’ IP at any time, including when we think your use is inappropriate, offensive, damaging, or disparaging (and we’ll make that call in our sole discretion). If this happens, you must immediately take down your Fan Content.

5. Keep it legit. It’s your Fan Content, so you are solely responsible for ensuring that your creations don’t violate the laws of your region. In addition to this Policy, your use of any Larian Studios’ IP must also comply with Larian Studios’ terms of use.

If you have any questions or the Fan Content you want to make isn’t covered by this Policy, contact us via community@larian.com. We’ll reply back as soon as we can. Please understand that if you don’t hear from us, it does not mean we approve of your requested use of Larian Studios’ IP."
