This page contains a collection of cinematic scripts found in Karlach's scenes.
Overview[edit section | visual editor]
These cinematic scripts for the cutscenes, which are more akin to written storyboards combined with developers' notes, are included under the "Expand" buttons below. They are all part of the game files.[1]
Information about scene creation involving the character writers, motion capture actors and cinematic artists, along with its significance for storytelling, is in the Development section.

Date with Karlach[edit section | visual editor]
The Player walks into Dancing Lute Tavern and spots Karlach, who's already sitting at one of the tables. It's decorated in a white tablecloth and candles. She beckons you over.Please reach out to Greg for poses/staging/characters/props placaments ref
Player takes a seat opposite Karlach. They both pick up menus (menu is like a paper, not book type) and read them over, Karlach glancing at the player nervously from time to time.
After Karlach delivered the line, she beckons the waiter over while still holding menu with left hand.
A bored-looking half-orc drags himself over and grunts at the players (walk few step to the player then talk)
She smiles, scans the menu again. (menu is like a piece of paper, not book type)
The waiter takes the menus and ambles away.
The waiter approaches and roughly drops two plates of food and two cups in front of Karlach and player. The food is something other than the choice made by the player. The two cups are two generic cups, can be any liquid inside. (same cine as N348)
Henk turns back and walks away from the table.
Karlach shrugs, amused at Henk's horribleness. She reaches for the drink to hold it aloft and propose a toast, but she fumbles it and knocks the glass over, then she back to standard sitting pose.
Player raises their glass in toast, drinks from their cup, and is about to pass it to Karlach to drink, but she's roughly leaned over the table to grab the player and kiss them. She sits back down, jostling the table again.
Camera zoom out implying they're eating and drinking. When it comes back to them, the plates/ cups are gone and the lights are dimmer, implying the passage of time.
She reaches across the table o the player, takes their hands in hers.
Fade to black that opens on the player and Karlach in one of the rooms in the inn. This will be a scene of sexual intimacy. (The following is open to interpretation/ details can and should evolve to suit cinematic + actor needs)
Karlach sits on the bed in the room and the player approaches, positioning themself between her legs and kissing her deeply. Karlach stands up, lifts up the player off their feet and rolls them onto the bed, Karlach on top. She pauses, looking deep into the player's eyes. A look of consternation passes briefly over her face, then the mood breaks. She smiles. (She is thinking about her mortality, about how much she loves the player, about the fragility of life). She bends down and kisses the player, then rolls to lay beside them, touching them intimately with one hand while she kisses them. Things escalate from there.
Fade to black that opens on the player and Karlach in one of the rooms in the inn. This will be a scene of non-sexual intimacy.[Player][Karlach] get into bed, lying on their backs, chatting to each other and laughing while holding hands. Eventually they'll both turn on their sides to be facing one another. Karlach reaches up to hold the player's face and scooches forward to kiss their forehead and cheek, then a chaste but sweet peck on the lips. Player and Karlach fall asleep wrapped in each other's arms.
The player and Karlach will get into bed, lying on their backs, chatting to each other (no sound) and laughing while holding hands. Eventually they'll both turn on their sides to be facing one another. Karlach reaches up to hold the player's face and scooches forward to kiss their forehead and cheek, then a chaste but sweet peck on the lips. Player and Karlach fall asleep wrapped in each other's arms.

She jerks her head, rage drawing her face taut. We move around her in a circle as she stares down the onlookers. Bitter irony in her voice - keep them safe from HER. Karlach starts burning intensely, flames picking up with her anger
Karlach watches back, eyes flicking from one face to the next as her expression moves through surprise, hurt, then sullen fury.
Awestruck gaze up at Karlach, who glares at them. Psionics pulse out, and the mass's expression shift to unease as they sense Karlach's mood.
Psionic blast from Karlach.
She raises her arm after speaking, and portals form behind her Sarcasm, bitterness, and rage - she's about to unleash hell on them. Finally speaking out. Maybe a saccharine bitterness here - feigning happiness in the most threatening way possible. Portals opening, effects on imps/cambions as they emerge
The camera comes to rest with Karlach facing down the camera, burning hot as we've ever seen. Over her shoulder, the Netherbrain rises again and begins to glow.
imps coming out from portal and rush attack towards the crowds. All around Karlach, portals swirl into form - and through them, imps and devils turn to take heed of the helpless crowd. Catching the scent, they leap through, weapons raised. Imps screeching, wings flapping. Cambions jumping/landing from portal, grunts/roars. Weapons foley.
Greasy smile.
Imps multiple new idle on ground and new landing anims needed More portals zapping open, civilians shocked sounds and running
Back to Karlach, gaze fixed ahead as screams rise all around - and then fade away. Crowds screaming, imps screeching, wings flapping. Imps slashing and cambions slashing weapons. Child crying Imp slashing civilian, blood splurting
She digs a hand into her chest (OOS), grits her teeth and wrenches - pulls out the heart.
Evil sarcasm. She's going to go kick Zariel's ass.
Karlach hand breaking through her chest. Foley of infernal engine being gripped and pulled out from chest cavity. Fire burning intensely and then going out. Infernal engine dropping on ground. Screams in background dying down Karlach inferno as she pulls heart out but it dies down completely when heart pulled out. Very glowy overlay on heart obscuring it with flames.
Karlach throws her heart aside as her flames lose their orange hue, and take on the same colouring as the Netherbain's magic.
