On my most recent game, right after the invasion at Last Light Inn, I headed to the Sharran Sanctuary in the middle of town, and after that went for Rolan, only to find him undead. I reloaded a save after Last Light, but before the Sanctuary, and this time he was still alive. The only other thing that was different between attempts to save him was that I took a short rest after fighting the guards in the Sanctuary. I'm guessing he works like Nere, and transitioning to another map after he heads out leads to him dying. unsigned comment by 98.216.248.40 (talk) 03:45, 17 October 2023

My understanding is that if you get close enough to him he loads in and he heads out and dies to the shadows. Similarly to the tiefling in the grove that gets assassinated by a bugbear. - Sky (talk) 21:04, 18 October 2023 (CEST)Reply
I had an even weirder situation happen in Patch 7 hotfix 28. I went to last light, didn't talk to Isobel and didn't talk to Rolan. I went with the harpers to get the drider lamp. Then I went to moonrise and saved everyone. They went on the boat and I fast travelled back to last light. Rolan was overjoyed to see Cal and Lia. And then I went into Reithwin and suddenly I saw Rolan about to fight the shadows. So I saved him and asked him what he was doing and he said going to save Cal and Lia. So be aware even if you get his dialog about being happy to see Cal and Lia he still might go unalive mode. Ryethe (talk) 18:56, 15 November 2024 (CET)Reply

No family[edit section]

The intro to the page and the info box on the right allege that Cal and Lia are Rolan's siblings, but according to his dialog when Speak With Dead is used on him (which is at the bottom of the page, for reference), they are not related to him, and he has no family. I think this is ok, because he's their adopted brother, which we know from context clues. He explicitly refers to them as "my brother and sister" when you rescue him in the SCL, and at the tiefling party, Lia mentions that Rolan has been doing magic for them since they were little, implying that at some point, he was adopted into the family. His Speak with Dead dialogue I think is more intended to highlight his insecurities that he's not their "real" brother. 71.192.46.161 15:57, 14 January 2026 (CET)Reply
