Notes

  • The Shadow Itself only triggers once per turn, and only does so if the character kills an enemy directly while in combat mode. Examples of kills that do not trigger this effect include, but are not limited to:
    • Indirect kills, such as attacking an incendiary barrel that then burns a nearby enemy to death.[verify]
    • Killing an opponent by sniper-shot with a bow, out of combat.
    • A creature killed from the wearer's casting of Cloud of DaggersCloud of Daggers
    • Sneak AttackSneak Attack as a reaction.[verify]
  • If a "homing" weapon such as Returning Pike deals the killing blow to an enemy, then the weapon's return animation will cause the invisibility to end early.
  • If playing the Dark Urge and either AlfiraAlfira or QuilQuil are killed in camp by another (e.g AstarionAstarion) before finishing the Long Rest, conversation options in camp next morning proceed as if the player character killed them, and Sceleritas still meets with them upon the next Long rest, but does not reward the cape.

Bugs

  • There is a bug involving this item with the Illithid power Cull the WeakCull the Weak. If the equipping character has The Shadow Itself activated and kills a target, the effect will not activate (or immediately gets cancelled).
