Just explaining a cool thing I found! So I had a playthrough where I didn't shop with Volo before he left the Grove, so I didn't get to see if he had the whispering promise ring. Then, I made the goblins angry by poisoning their beer, and the goblin trader (who presumably takes the ring from Volo when Volo is captured) didnt want to trade with me, so I couldn't get the ring from him. Later, I killed all the goblins as part of a quest, and I didn't find the ring on his body or anywhere: I thought volo might have gotten it back, or maybe I just missed it on this save file through all these shenanegans. Later, in Act 2 in Moonglow Towers, the trader who was in the Goblin camp (Roah Moonglow) had the ring! What an awesome way that traders can canonically pass items between each other in a way. Roah presumably looted it from the Goblins, after the Goblins looted it from Volo!
