Johl is a Human NPC in Baldur's Gate 3. He can be found at the Sunlit Wetlands, searching for his sister Mayrina.

Can be spoken to with Speak with Dead.
Eventually, the player will be forced to take sides in the conversation. If they decide to side with Auntie Ethel, Demir and Johl will accuse you of working with her and attack. If they don't side with Ethel, she will chastise them and disappear in a burst of magic. The player can then talk to the two brothers and attempt to convince them not to follow her into the swamp. While Demir listens and is willing to take the player's advice if they offer to look for Mayrina instead, Johl refuses and drags his brother into the Sunlit Wetlands with him.

Demir and his brother are dead the next they are found in the wetlands, presumably having been killed by Redcaps.
In Act One, when the player first enters the Sunlit Wetlands from the east, they will find Johl and his brother Demir asking Auntie Ethel where their sister Mayrina is, and accusing Ethel of having taken her.

The player can talk with the group to gain more information about the situation, learning that Mayrina disappeared and the last person to see her was Ethel. Throughout the encounter, Demir is pleading with her while she insists that she's blameless, but willing to help them look for her.

Demir and his brother are dead the next time they are found in the wetlands.

By toggling on non-lethal attacks during the fight, the brothers can be spared. Their corpses do not appear in the swamp, and the player has the option to tell Mayrina that her brothers are merely knocked unconscious. Humorously, she still cries out that they are dead.

* Who are you?
** Johl... cattle... farmer.
* How did you plan on killing this hag?

* Maybe Mayrina wants to stay with Ethel?
** Course... 'cause she promised... to bring Rina's husband... back. But hags... lie...
* What drove your sister to leave?
** She's scared she won't be... a good mum. But... she wil. I know it...

Notes
* If you knock him and/or his brother out with Toggle Non-Lethal Attacks, you may notify Mayrina that they are only unconscious. As of Date, however, she will still treat them as though they are dead.
* If you have a character who is very Stealthy, or someone who can Misty Step, Dimension Door or otherwise get past Auntie Ethel and the brothers without notice, you can reach the Ancient Sigil Circle to bring the rest of your party down.  Then you can disarm all of the traps. Afterward, kill the 3 Redcap<nowiki/>s and the 1 Redcap Blood Sage.  After this is done, return to Johl and Demir. Side with them - Auntie Ethel will disappear. The brothers will say they are going to try and rescue Mayrina and then they will disappear as well. At this point, the brothers are as saved as you can make them  - they disappear into the swamp.
