Willing Whip

From bg3.wiki

Willing Whip is a passive feature that grants resistance to Necrotic damage but deals Necrotic damage to every creature nearby.

Description

Grants Resistance to NecroticNecrotic damage. Deals an additional 1d6NecroticNecrotic damage to nearby targets, including the wielder.

How to learn

Used by creatures:

Notes

  • Due to the resistance granted by this passive, fractional damage received by the wielder is rounded down, and they take only 0~3NecroticNecrotic damage. However, nearby allies take full damage.
  • The area of effect is centred on the creature that is hit, and the radius is 2 m / 7 ft.
  • This feature is particularly useful against groupings of low-hit-point enemies that may otherwise have many opportunities to score critical hits against the party.
  • If Lae'zelLae'zel is in the party while fighting the murder of Shadow-Cursed RavenShadow-Cursed Ravens on the Ruined Battlefield in Act Two at X: 30 Y: 114, the area of effect damage from this passive may easily earn the SoldierSoldier's PentacrushPentacrush Inspiration, while taking little to no damage in the process.
  • Attacks which deal multiple instances of damage, such as the various smite spells or Booming BladeBooming Blade, will trigger multiple instances of Willing Whip.
    • Similarly, weapon attacks that target multiple creatures, such as Tiger's BloodlustTiger's Bloodlust, cause this passive to activate separately on each successful attack, potentially causing the wielder and all nearby creatures to take significant damage.

Bugs

  • Creatures close to the one struck by this weapon take damage every time, but those on the border of its AoE radius sometimes do not.
