bg3wiki talk:Image policy
Restricted Page needs an edit[edit section]
The title line of this page reads as "It is important to be use the correct file format and to follow toe appropriate naming convention when uploading images to BG3Wiki." I'm guessing it should read as "It is important to be use the correct file format and to follow the appropriate naming convention when uploading images to BG3Wiki."
I'd fix this myself, but don't have that level of editing privileges. If someone could please fix this (or give me the edit level to do so) I'd appreciate it. Raelin (talk) 07:07, 29 April 2025 (CEST)
- Thanks for the hint. It's corrected now. Hawkeye (talk) 11:30, 29 April 2025 (CEST)
Aspect ratio[edit section]
Seeking input/consensus, but recommend standardizing on 5:7 for in-game images (at least in the case of humanoids). Also some note about keeping the face placed for the rule of thirds so when a search engine crops the result is still good. The wiki now biases towards the top when cropping to deal with model files, but 5:7 with a centered face still looks good, especially when the center third spans roughly chin-to-eyebrows Capranaut (talk) 01:12, 14 July 2026 (CEST)
- It would be good to see one or more 'best practice models' as examples of how this would/should be done, along with how expansive the application of the standard would be, if implemented. Raelin (talk) 04:29, 14 July 2026 (CEST)
- Alfira, Cerys, Branthos, and Talli are examples of what I'm tyring to codify in descending order of precedence. Not a pass fail criteria, but a best practice where sanity controls if there is a good reason to deviate. Capranaut (talk) 05:00, 14 July 2026 (CEST)
- I see. Those are very good pictures, BTW. Raelin (talk) 05:19, 14 July 2026 (CEST)

- Both 4:5 and 5:7 is good for the most part. I generally do 4:5, since it's a crop preset in photoshop and traditional portrait size in photography.
- And yeah, rule of thirds generally. Eyes around the first third, neck/upper body from the last third, down. HiddenDragon (talk) 06:55, 14 July 2026 (CEST)

- Looks good for the most part. Few things I might add/change:
- I might be wrong, but I don't think photo mode allows changing the F-number (only a generic "Field of View" setting).
- Photo mode in-game tends to produce more fish-eyed proportions unless you move the camera back and then zoom-in (kind of like what real photographers do by using 85mm lenses and standing back).
- For this reason, I generally prefer dialogue scenes to non-dialogue scenes, since they seem like they're already tuned to ideal camera settings. I would also add, photo mode during dialogue actually "fixes" dark scenes by automatically lightening up the scene. It depends on location though, from my experience. It is also sometimes buggy, causing character models to disappear or become blurry so your mileage may vary... HiddenDragon (talk) 20:13, 14 July 2026 (CEST)
- It lets you change the F-number if depth of field effects are toggled on. I'll rephrase it to make it more clear, but the darker Bex dialogue image is photo mode from dialogue, and the lighter one is after running it through Photoshop Capranaut (talk) 23:32, 14 July 2026 (CEST)
- Oh I almost forgot, I dunno if it makes sense in this article but forcing Anisotropic Filtering on (through nVidia control panel or similar) is highly recommended, to make facial hair and edges not look like a muddy mess. On my machine it is permanently forced on for BG3. HiddenDragon (talk) 20:19, 14 July 2026 (CEST)
