Act One
The Dishevelled Chicken can only be encountered in the Goblin Camp if the player hasn't thoroughly explored other parts of the Wilderness yet. Meeting the Owlbear, regardless if it survives, as long as the cub isn't harmed, and long resting will set a series of unfortunate events in motion which lead to the chicken being eaten by the Owlbear Cub. Consequently the cub will replace the Chicken.
Many players may not even encounter the chicken, if they take their time exploring other parts of the Wilderness. If the Owlbear Nest is explored - regardless of whether the Owlbear is killed - and the Owlbear Cub remains alive, it will make its way to the Goblin Camp where it is captured by the goblins and eat the poor chicken, replacing it in the chicken chasing games.

Even if the player uses Speak With Animals Icon.png Speak with Animals, the chicken is too distressed to form coherent answers. However, while playing the chicken chasing game, the player can communicate with it:
If you have Speak With Animals Icon.png Speak with Animals, the chicken is too distressed to talk normally. However if you're playing the chicken chasing game, you can talk to it more openly:

** Animal Handling. Urge her to attack them.
* Animal Handling. Urge her to attack them. (This will lead to the chicken going into a mad rage and make the whole camp hostile to it, quickly killing it.)
** Speak With Animals Icon.png Speak with Animals Persuasion. Urge her to attack them.

** Intimidation as Druid Wild things do not beg for help. They protect themselves.
* Speak With Animals Icon.png Speak with Animals Persuasion. Urge her to attack them. (This will lead to the chicken going into a mad rage and make the whole camp hostile to it, quickly killing it.)
** Intimidation as Barbarian You are a noble fowl. Fast. Sharp. VENGEFUL!
* "What's wrong?" (The chicken just talks about its dire situation.)
:(Choosing either of the above options will lead to the chicken going into a mad rage, the whole camp turning hostile to it, and quickly killing it.)
* "I'll help. Just run through the posts and you'll be free." (This will make the cub run to the end of the course and quickly finish the game.)

* "Oh shut up and play." (Just makes the chicken more distressed.)

Unfortunately there is no way to actually free the Dishevelled Chicken. In any case, it either dies or gets chased again.
The chicken can also be killed without turning the goblins hostile, though you won't be able to play the game until the owlbear cub gets taken to the camp.

The chicken can be killed without turning the goblins hostile, though the player won't be able to play chicken chasing unless the party leaves the Goblin Camp, encounters the Owlbear, takes a long rest, and the Owlbear Cub gets taken to the camp.
