Dishevelled Chicken is a Beast potentially found in the Goblin Camp in Act One. A plaything for the Goblins, the frightened poultry is constantly being chased by Devout Mezzka or being forced to take part in Krolla's chicken chasing games.

Escape?! Escape!
— The chicken in a constant state of duress.

Act One[edit | edit source]

The Dishevelled Chicken can only be encountered in the Goblin Camp if the player hasn't thoroughly explored other parts of the Wilderness yet. Meeting the Owlbear, regardless if it survives, as long as the cub isn't harmed, and long resting will set a series of unfortunate events in motion which lead to the chicken being eaten by the Owlbear Cub. Consequently the cub will replace the Chicken.

Even if the player uses Speak with Animals, the chicken is too distressed to form coherent answers. However, while playing the chicken chasing game, the player can communicate with it:

(Choosing either of the above options will lead to the chicken going into a mad rage, the whole camp turning hostile to it, and quickly killing it.)
  • "What's wrong?" (The chicken talks about its dire situation.)
  • "I'll help. Just run through the posts and you'll be free." (This will make the chicken run to the end of the course and quickly finish the game.)
  • "Oh shut up and play." (Just makes the chicken more distressed.)

Unfortunately there is no way to actually free the Dishevelled Chicken. In any case, it either dies or gets chased again.

The chicken can be killed without turning the goblins hostile, though the player won't be able to play chicken chasing unless the party leaves the Goblin Camp, encounters the Owlbear, takes a long rest, and the Owlbear Cub gets taken to the camp.
