I was able to get Shovel on my Tav and Gale with this setup ''(not sure if all or only some of the following is needed)'':
* Shovel was first summoned in Act I, before entering the Mountain Pass (or even the Underdark).
* Shovel was first summoned in the middle of the Emerald Grove, so it is not a requirement to summon Shovel in the Apothecary's Cellar  or Whispering Depths.
* My Tav was a Wood Elf, and had 1 level in Wizard (none in Warlock or Sorcerer).
* My Tav had already successfully read the [[Necromancy of Thay]] (gaining the Forbidden Knowledge bonus) before summoning Shovel (or even scribing the scroll).
** You may be able to read through the book after the initial Shovel summoning; haven't tested that.
Here's what I did:
# Gale scribed the scroll to his Wizard spellbook, and cast the summoning spell. Gale had the initial conversation with Shovel (even if I quickly switched to Tav after casting, the game would automatically switch back to Gale and initiate the conversation).
# During the initial conversation, Gale said "Your name is 'Shovel'?" followed by "Shovel is fine" when offered to change the name. ''(This may or may not be required, but was mentioned on the [[Scroll of Summon Quasit|scroll's page]].)''
# After the initial conversation, my Tav talked to (Gale's) Shovel. She said a line starting with "Oh, oh, a spell shite!", and Tav learned how to summon Shovel.
# Tav summoned Shovel using the newly learned spell. Gale's Shovel did not disappear, so the party now had two Shovels.
With this setup, Gale had the spell "Find Familiar: Cheeky Quasit" in the Wizard section of his spellbook (i.e. it would be lost when re-speccing), and Tav had the spell "Find Familiar: Cheeky Quasit" in the Common section of their spellbook (i.e. it would persist if re-speccing).

Mirror of Loss

I think these bonuses need to be clarified a bit better. The sacrifice of "memories" can provide either a +1 OR +2 bonus, depending on some factor (seemingly using the Arcane check provides +1, while using a religion check provides +2, and apparently they can stack for a +3 total, though I have no save to verify this at the moment). The way it's currently worded implies sacrificing "memories" is only +1, which I can say for certain is not true based on my testing in my original run (where I got +2 after the Religion check, but either never had (or failed and didn't notice) an an Arcane check).

As a rogue/ranger, I didn't see any option for an Arcana check either. I'm honestly not sure what the recent edit to this permanent bonus info is trying to say, since I'm only aware of the +2 bonus option, so I'm hesitant to correct anything here. Anyone else have concrete, confirmed steps for how to achieve both a +1 and a +2 bonus from the mirror? -majesstic (talk) 11:15, 23 August 2023 (CEST)Reply[reply]
As a followup, I did a bunch of testing here, and it seems like only +1 CHA is possible and it's quite buggy/inconsistent. Maybe others can chime in to comment on other outcomes? Possibly class-tagged dialogue options for an Arcana check? -majesstic (talk) 12:51, 23 August 2023 (CEST)Reply[reply]
sorry first time posting on this wiki, so apologies if i dont follow convention. just want to add to this... I dont think this is a bug, i think theirs a hidden role being done even if you pass the checks. I did prayer, then another religion check and sacrificed fortitude each test (im a wizard so i passed each check). 7 times i got the "you think of Aver" dialogue, which means you get nothing except the debuff. 4 times I got the straight exchange, 2 fort down for 2 int up and 2 times I got the Patriars buff, which gave em +1 cha and then allowed me to interact again and get a +2 int for sacrificing Thay knowledge. What i rolled on previous checks seemed to have no bearing on what the mirror did as long as i passed them. (in one case i got 2 nat 20's and still i got the Aver dialogue and got nothing), I therefore think this is indicative of a third role being made on mirror's side and this is indicating crit fails, passes and crit success roles and i think thats why its random, not a bug.

Awakened

This one probably needs more information on what happens if you have Lae'zel use the device when she's a companion. In my playthrough, she received three negative conditions & her saving throw results are not visible to the player.

I can confirm it can penalize 3 stats: CON, INT and WIS. Lae'zel was not even in my party.

Act 2 potion

The potion gained from convincing Astarion to bite the drow appears to be tied to race. My halfling received a potion of Halfling luck which gave advantage on skill checks until long rest. Need confirmation from other races that have received different potions.

You get two potions from her. The first is 'free' for allowing her to take a sample of YOUR blood, and that varies based on your race. Then there's a second potion you get from convincing Astarion to bite her, which is the permanent +2 STR one. Only the latter is listed here, since it's permanent. The others are listed on the Araj Oblodra page. Hargrimm (talk) 02:45, 26 August 2023 (CEST)Reply[reply]

Brand of the Absolute

I reverted the recent change to the note and added some clarity. You can still brand your full party after the first character has been branded by Gut. Warlock Greez handles all of the branding after that. -majesstic (talk) 01:27, 27 August 2023 (CEST)Reply[reply]

Patriar's Memory

Might be linked to reading the Patriar Blackmail, etc books under the House of Grief.

Add "Summon Us"

Given that this page has added Find Familiar: Scratch and Find Familiar: Cheeky Quasit, it may as well add that you can permanently be able to Summon Us, a friendly Intellect Devourer with better stats and attacks, in Act 2 within the Mind Flayer colony if you saved them during the Game's opening sequence/tutorial. You must free it from its cage within the Chopping room/Morgue of the Mind Flayer Colony to be able to receive its summon item, which is a brain that takes up an inventory slot and grants the ability to Summon Us. Transferring the Brain between characters transfers the summoning spell to that character. Note, however, that Us does not seem to be the same type of spell as that of Scratch or Cheeky Quasit; that is, it is not a Find Familiar spell and instead is labelled a "Cantrip". Us can be resummoned upon death in battle after a short rest, making them a permanent summon.

Mirror of Loss

You can deceive Mirror of Loss, so you don't have to sacrifice Forbidden Knowledge to get, +1 CHA and +2 to other.

Awakened

Mountain Pass location counts as Act 2.

No it does not. Act Two only begins when you enter the shadow-cursed lands zone, via the exit from either the Mountain Pass or Grymforge. That's when the achievement for leaving Act One pops as well. Hargrimm (talk) 20:13, 26 September 2023 (CEST)Reply[reply]
I got the A2 achievement when entering the Mountain Pass (on GOG), but I do believe that's a mistake because Larian mentions Mountain Pass events as part of A1 changes in their patch notes. The achievement triggering for some players when entering the Mountain Pass is likely the source of the confusion about when A2 actually starts
Entering Underdark does not result warning about advancing story line. Entering Mountain Pass shows that warning. Elminster shows up in Mountain Pass or after using Underdark elevator to Shadow lands. By that logic Mountain Pass is Act 2.

Mystra's Benevolence

The tooltip doesn't mention it, but many people reported it lasts until the next long rest and thus isn't permanent. I tested it myself and the buff is really gone after resting, the combat log no longer mentions advantage like it did before resting. Some claim it's a bug, but whether or not that's true it's not how a permanent buff now, so it shouldn't be listed

Missing permanent bonus

Patriar's memory +1 CHA from mirror of loss.

Getting it it's random and convoluted, in this reddit post it's explained how to get it

Mystra's Benevolence

Not permanent as of Patch 3 - leaves after long rest.

Mirror of Loss bonuses patch 3 hotfix 7

I was able to get the +3 bonus on all characters in my party. Each was able to complete one after another.

Multiple Shovels (Find Familiar: Cheeky Quasit)

I was able to get Shovel on my Tav and Gale with this setup (not sure if all or only some of the following is needed):

  • Shovel was first summoned in Act I, before entering the Mountain Pass (or even the Underdark).
  • Shovel was first summoned in the middle of the Emerald Grove, so it is not a requirement to summon Shovel in the Apothecary's Cellar or Whispering Depths.
  • My Tav was a Wood Elf, and had 1 level in Wizard (none in Warlock or Sorcerer).
  • My Tav had already successfully read the Necromancy of Thay (gaining the Forbidden Knowledge bonus) before summoning Shovel (or even scribing the scroll).
    • You may be able to read through the book after the initial Shovel summoning; haven't tested that.

Here's what I did:

  1. Gale scribed the scroll to his Wizard spellbook, and cast the summoning spell. Gale had the initial conversation with Shovel (even if I quickly switched to Tav after casting, the game would automatically switch back to Gale and initiate the conversation).
  2. During the initial conversation, Gale said "Your name is 'Shovel'?" followed by "Shovel is fine" when offered to change the name. (This may or may not be required, but was mentioned on the scroll's page.)
  3. After the initial conversation, my Tav talked to (Gale's) Shovel. She said a line starting with "Oh, oh, a spell shite!", and Tav learned how to summon Shovel.
  4. Tav summoned Shovel using the newly learned spell.
