Usage

  • Reading this scroll summons a unique Quasit familiar named Shovel and begins a dialogue interaction with her.
  • Some characters can use this dialogue to learn the ability to summon her once per Short Rest as a ritual (via Find Familiar: Cheeky Quasit Find Familiar: Cheeky Quasit). The following classes and races produce successful results. The list may not be exhaustive:
    • Draconic Bloodline Sorcerer
    • Warlock
    • Wizard
    • Dragonborn
    • How to:
      • Asking about her name, and picking "Shovel is fine" seems to be the key dialogue option. The other names (Basket, Fork) at this stage seem to prevent the talking party member from learning the spell.
      • Subsequent responses do not seem to matter.
      • The option "Leave.", always locks the party out of the dialogue.
      • She always brings up Necromancy of Thay and closes the dialogue if the talking party member has not interacted with the book yet. After interacting with the book Shovel can be spoken with again, and the dialogue can be completed. It is not necessary to open the book yet, as long as it has been interacted with and obtained. The order of reading the book and / or interacting with the familiar does not seem to matter.
        • After having read the book, the response "Yes—I found the book. Quite the read." leads to the "See. Tell you truth, beefy." loop, while the response "You have such a way with words." leads Shovel to say "Read book, conquer book. Yes.", after which speaking with Shovel again teaches the non-spell slot form of the summoning spell.
      • If all prerequisites are met, Shovel responds with a line starting with "Oh, oh, a spell shite!", and at this point, the talking party member obtains the summoning spell.
      • If the familiar gets stuck on "See. Tell you truth, beefy." and the summoning spell has not been obtained, some of the prerequisites may not have been met. However, it is possible in some circumstances to reset the dialogue. For instance, by 'advancing the adventure' through traveling to the Rosymorn Monastery Trail for the first time and then speaking to Shovel with another character.
      • Draconic Bloodline Sorcerers have an option to try to deceive Shovel that they are actually a dragon in disguise. This leads to some amusing dialogue with her but does not seem to lead to learning the summoning spell. However, choosing either of the other subclass-specific dialogue options does.
      • The dialogue can started but not completed while being disguised.
      • The character level does not seem to matter. One may obtain and read Necromancy of Thay, briefly respec via Withers into any class listed above at level 1, obtain the summoning spell, then respec back. When learned this way, the spell is categorized as "common" / "racial", and persists when changing the class via Withers. Beware that respeccing unsummons Shovel, and must be done before summoning the familiar or after exhausting its dialogue and learning the summon.
  • Alternatively, wizards can scribe the scroll to their spellbook to gain the Find Familiar: Cheeky Quasit Find Familiar: Cheeky Quasit spell. When learned this way, the spell is categorized under "Wizard", must be prepared via the spellbook instead of a bonus spell, and becomes unavailable when changing the class via Withers.
  • As is mentioned on Shovel's character page, she is afraid of Storm and Wild Magic Sorcerers, and speaking with her as a character with levels in those classes triggers a unique dialogue which prevents that character from being able to learn the spell. This can be circumvented by having that character cast Disguise Self Disguise Self prior to using the summoning scroll for the first time. After speaking with Shovel, it is possible to dismiss the disguise and then pass through the magic mirror. The party member can then speak to Shovel again and should be able to learn the spell as described above.
  • Shovel's dialogue acts as if the party member is a Storm Sorcerer even if they are a Shadow Magic Sorcerer.
