Talk:Rescue the Tieflings
Suggested strategy - as others *will* still result in failure[edit source]
Cleaning out all the guards (the warden, 1 stationary and 1 patrolling guard in front of the cells, 2x Scrying Eyes near the cells, 1x Eye upstairs in the Warden's room, 2+1 guards at the prison entrance plus all four cultists/guards outside at the docks) and then simply opening the cells to let everyone escape on foot will almost always result in glitches and/or Tieflings registered as dead that clearly did not die during the escape.
As of Patch 7, the foolproof strategy seems to be to still kill all the guards (both inside and at the docks), then place a single party member near the cell-levers in the Warden's office. Then have another party member hand Wulbren his hammer (or some other tool) and tell him to start the escape. Once he starts hitting the back wall, the lone party member can open cell #2 and rejoin the rest of the party, then regroup everyone, enter the cell and follow the Gnomes to the chained-up boat. Wait for them to unshackle the boat, and then tell Wulbren you all will be sailing to Last Light together. This has worked for me in three consecutive play-throughs while trying the "escape on foot" method has almost always resulted in glitches and, at best, partial completion of the quest. 92.200.246.210 17:28, 25 January 2025 (CET)
- I might suggest a strategy that never failed me - if I decide to save them, I always save them all using it. It is complex, but effective (proven itself on modless game up to Tactician included).
- First, obtain Wulbren's hammer (I usually did it through the wooden sidewalks around the central tower). Then, divide the party (basic four members in two and two), so that every part had a means to deal bludgeoning and/or Force damage to the wall AND every member had their own means to teleport inside the cell (Misty Step, Dimension Door, Arrow of Transposition, etc.).
- Third, place the party squads in front of gnomes' and tieflings' cells and block the view through the corridor with spells like Fog or Darkness, or shoot an Arrow of Darkness there. The width of the corridor is exactly as the area of these spells. Do not talk to Wulbren about starting the break until this moment. Upon this, switch the Turn-Based on if you are not sure you can play this out in concert.
- Four, teleport party members inside each cell, as close to the back wall as possible (except one who has to speak to Wulbren and start the break - only now!). If any Actions left, start breaking the wall. In gnomes' cell, Wulbren will help, in tieflings' you are on your own, so choose the party members who deal damage carefully. If the sight-blocking spells' areas are placed nicely, the guards do not see the wallbreaches until they fade.
- Five, from each pair of party choose the one who runs most far - right after the breach, they should rush to the boat and break the chains themselves. Both gnomes and tieflings do this too slowly to not be spotted. The second one in each pair cover the retreat and runs behind each group of fugitives.
- Six, let Wulbren go with all others on the boat and wait for the end of current turn to find out whether the guards were alerted. If they do, you'll have to fight. If not, you can freely fast travel out of jail.
- I don't know how to describe this smoothly to add to the article itself, but the strategy has been working for me for last five or six walkthroughs. Only two of them lead to fight with Warden and others. Arikel (talk) 08:43, 25 March 2025 (CET)
The time limit on this doesn't make narrative sense.[edit source]
Why wouldn't there be a way to do this if the full on assault path occurs? If we attack the Towers and win the fight, wouldn't we be able to at least attempt to find and rescue all prisoners? The game warns that "environment might change" before entering the Shadowfell but what good is that if I don't know which quests I'm going to get locked out of? "We never found the tieflings in Moonrise Towers" also doesn't make sense if I never even went to the Towers just yet. 98.46.126.104 04:04, 25 March 2025 (CET)
