Lycanthrope vs Werewolf[edit source]

Is there a difference? If not, add Arnell Hallowleaf Arnell Hallowleaf and update his page Capranaut (talk) 13:15, 21 September 2025 (CEST)Reply

It appears that Lycantrophy can refer to other kinds of werebeast, but Arnell is mentioned to have a wolf form, so I guess he's indeed specifically a werewolf. Taylan (talk) 13:31, 21 September 2025 (CEST)Reply
Hmm, it should be noted though that currently this page only lists characters who are actually a werewolf in-game in terms of creature type. We should make sure to make the distinction clear. Taylan (talk) 13:32, 21 September 2025 (CEST)Reply
Noted on both this and his page (werewolf status and lack of transformation outside memory cinematics) Capranaut (talk) 13:40, 21 September 2025 (CEST)Reply
The definitions of Lycanthrope by Wikipedia and FR Wiki are quite contrary.
For Wikipedia a Lycanthrope is a Werewolf ("Lykanos" greek for "wulf", "Anthropos" greek for Human) other Werecreatures would be called Therianthropes ("Therian" greek for "wild animal" / "beast").
In the FR Wiki Lycanthrope and Lycanthropy are terms used for all kinds of Werecreatures like Wererats, Weretigers, and so on. Hawkeye (talk) 13:43, 21 September 2025 (CEST)Reply
That's good to know, because it's definitely confusing. (Especially to those who know Greek, I suppose.) We should go with the FR definition of course. Thankfully it's unproblematic in this case because Arnell happens to be a werewolf anyway. (And I'm not sure there's other types of werebeast in BG3.) idk. The way Halsin talks about loosing control and accidentally becoming a bear... Capranaut (talk) 14:10, 21 September 2025 (CEST)Reply
Maybe he's actually a Werebear, but we can't say for sure. Hawkeye (talk) 14:12, 21 September 2025 (CEST)Reply
