Bareki was once part of a group of thieves, alongside {{CharLink|Aelis Siryasius}} and {{CharLink|Sarin}}, who broke into Gortash's office. In doing so, they discovered the secret plot of [[The Absolute]] and were hunted down by [[Cult of the Absolute|Absolute Cultists]] until they fled into the sewers. Sarin believed that Aelis and Bareki would get them all caught by recklessly spending the treasure they stole from Gortash, so she decided to hide it- inadvertently fueling their paranoia and causing them to fear that she'd been taken over by the Absolute. As a result, Bareki decapitated her and Aelis burned her until only her skeleton remained.

As his title implies, Bareki is completely mute and does not have any dialogue during his interactions. The party will lose approval with him if he spots them stealing {{SmRarityItem|Sarin's Skull}} from the pouch behind him.
