The Crown of Karsus

The Crown of Karsus was created by Karsus, an archwizard from the Faerûn empire of Netheril. It is a very powerful item and anyone who wields it is said to obtain godlike powers. It is an invulnerable entity found Atop the Netherbrain in Act Three. Targeting it with Karsus' Compulsion Karsus' Compulsion is the penultimate goal of the final battle to defeat The Netherbrain The Netherbrain.

History[edit | edit source]

The crown was taken by the archdevil Mephistopheles and held in a vault for more than a thousand years. This was until someone managed to steal the crown from Mephistopheles and bring it back to Faerûn.

Three Netherstones were removed from the crown and distributed between Ketheric Thorm Ketheric Thorm, Enver Gortash Enver Gortash and Orin Orin the Red. Through the power of the Netherstones the chosen can control whoever wears the crown, and the power that comes with it. At this point the game of Baldur's Gate 3 begins. For more information read The Dark Urge.

Involvement[edit | edit source]

The goal of the final battle's first phase is ultimately to bring the party's designated Mind Flayer to the Crown and attune to it using Karsus' Compulsion. The elder brain will speak through the crown each round, taunting and mocking the party. Once the chosen party member successfully casts the spell, a rift opens into the Netherbrain's psyche, where it can finally be defeated by the party.

Honour Mode[edit | edit source]

On Honour Mode the artifact itself gains a free spell once per round, akin to a Legendary Action:
