The son of Grand Duke [[Ulder Ravengard]], Wyll observed many of the political inner workings of Baldur's Gate while growing up. His mother, Francesca, died in childbirth,{{ref|name=mother|Campsite, dialogue exchange between the player character and Wyll after encountering Arabella in the Shadowlands and agreeing to find her parents.<br>''Player: "You've talked about your father, but not your mother. She died when I was born."''}} and he spent a largely happy childhood being trained by his father, who came from a working-class background, being taught practical skills such as swordplay.{{ref|name=ulder}} Much of Wyll's principles come from his father, who instilled in him a sense of duty to the city of Baldur's Gate and its people. As his father rose through the ranks of nobility, Wyll took part of many noble gatherings, getting to know that side of the city well.
