Runepowder Barrel is a very rare Consumable that can be ignited to deal damage.

Description Icon.png

A secret concoction of smokepowder and gnomic mysticism, a single vial of runepowder is more volatile than a whole barrel of smokepowder. Who knows what this much could do...

Properties

  • Consumables
  • Single Use
  • Rarity: Very Rare
  •  Weight: 16 kg / 32 lb
  • Price: 2500 gp
  • UUID 79dfb371-cd87-48f3-b542-26db2d39cfe2

Effect

  • The runepowder inside explodes when ignited, damaging everything in its vicinity.

Where to find

  • Found near Philomeen in Grymforge.
    • Philomeen will explode the barrel if the player attempts to steal it. To circumvent this, she can be engaged in dialogue with one party member while another steals the barrel.
  • Two more barrels can be found in Angleiron's Cellar during act 3, regardless of whether the player stole the initial barrel from Philomeen or not.

Notes

  • This barrel can be thrown as an action, but will not detonate unless reduced to 0 hp by the throw or deliberately ignited by other means.
  • If the barrel and the Runepowder Vial are stolen before engaging in dialogue, Philomeen will turn hostile. This can be circumvented by engaging her in dialogue with 1 party member and have another steal only the barrel, then only steal the vial after she mentions it in dialogue, stealing it before will turn her hostile.
  • An ignited runepowder barrel produces an explosion with an enormous blast radius of ~60 ft. Exercise extreme caution, especially in Honour Mode.
  • If you use the barrel instead of Runepowder Vial to clear the rockfall trapping Nere, the explosion will kill Barcus Wroot and his companions.
  • An active Globe of Invulnerability spell will completely negate damage from an exploding Runepowder Barrel, even a directly-adjacent one. This can be used to great effect in many fights, provided one is willing to spend both a barrel and a scroll/spell slot and ensures that any nearby party members, especially the Globe's caster, are within the spell's area-of-effect.
  • According to the Narrator's dialogue during the cutscene with Philomeen, Runepowder has an ashen scent that is acridic, "as if contaminated somehow" or "much, much more concentrated."
  • Philomeen claims that "any true Ironhand would trade their life for a grain of this stuff."
