Ability Drain

Ability Drain is a passive feature and Illithid Power. Once per turn while attacking, this ability reduces the target's relevant Ability score by 1.

Description

Once per turn, when you make an  Attack Roll, the attack reduces that target's corresponding Ability by 1. The reduced ability score cannot be decreased lower than 1.

The Ability that is reduced is the same as the one used to make the Attack Roll.

For melee weapons, this is usually Strength, for ranged weapons usually Dexterity, and for spells usually your Spellcasting Ability.

Targets affected by Ability Drain regain their ability scores at the end of combat.

• Unlock from the illithid power skill tree with a Mind Flayer Parasite Specimen after obtaining the following:
  •  Psionic Overload
• Obtained automatically after becoming a Full-Illithid

Notes

• Weapon attacks using spellcasting ability (e.g., via  Shillelagh,  Bind Pact Weapon, or simply by using the  Sylvan Scimitar or  Infernal Rapier) apply Ability Drain for the respective spellcasting ability.
• All Ability Drain conditions are removed when a creature receives a condition from the  Unconscious,  Incapacitated, or  Petrified status groups.
• Ability Drain does not trigger for attacks made against allies.
• As of Hotfix #16, Ability Drain does not reduce a target's ability below 1.
  • If a creature's total ability score (including all other increases and decreases) is less than or equal to 1, then attacks against it will not trigger Ability Drain.
