Notes

  • The extra damage inflicted is added to any action using an Attack roll including weapon attacks, unarmed strikes, attack roll spells, and thrown attacks. Actions involving multiple attack rolls such as Eldritch Blast Eldritch Blast or Flurry of Blows Flurry of Blows gain the bonus damage for each individual hit.
  • Spells that do not use attack rolls, such as Magic Missile Magic Missile, do not benefit from this ability.
  • Self-damage received each round still induces Concentration Concentration checks if using spells which require it. If must-have spells (e.g. Haste Haste) are wanted alongside Psionic Overload, it may be advisable to have an ally cast them (on the character using Psionic Overload).
  • Self-damage from this ability breaks Sanctuary Sanctuary on the caster, despite the spell stating it breaks from damaging "another creature".
  • Self-damage from this ability may result in multiple damage riders on the caster: having effects such as Lightning Charges Lightning Charges or radiant damage from the Callous Glow Ring while Psionic Overload is active will likely result in the user of this ability taking significant damage each turn.
