Freecast is a toggleable passive feature and a power available to Partial-Illithids. It allows them to bypass the normal expenditure of spell slots, charges or other similar resource costs for their next chosen Action, once per Long Rest.

Description

You have discovered a marvellous adaptability within yourself. Spell slots, charges, and similar resource costs for your next action or spell are removed. Refreshes after a Long Rest.

How to learn

Other ways to learn:

Notes

  • If an action takes more than one type of resource (e.g., Metamagic Quicken Spell with any spell that is not a cantrip), both costs are removed.
  • Prior to Patch 6, this feature did not remove Channel Oath costs.

Bugs

  • When fast traveling between areas that require a loading screen (such as between Act 1 and Act 2, or between the Lower City and Rivington), Freecast and many other abilities have their cooldowns reset.
    • This allows for multiple Freecast uses in a day, which can be quite useful for buffs or summons requiring high level spell slots such as Heroes' Feast Heroes' Feast, Planar Ally Planar Ally, and more.
  • Freecast can be easily reset by having another character apply a condition (such as Guidance Guidance or Aura of Protection Aura of Protection) on the character seeking to (re)use Freecast.
  • Freecast becomes disabled when equipping or unequipping a weapon from the ranged weapon slot. It can be re-enabled by re-equipping a melee weapon.
