== How Scrolls Work ==

Scrolls in Baldur's Gate 3 follow different rules from the 5th Edition Dungeons & Dragons ruleset. Here are some key points of how scrolls work in BG3 (verified as of Early Access Patch 9):

* [[Attack Roll]]s and the [[Difficulty Class]] of [[Saving Throw]]s from scrolls '''always''' benefit from your current [[Proficiency Bonus]] and your class's [[Spells#Spellcasting Ability Modifier|Spellcasting Ability Modifier]], even if your class cannot normally cast spells.

* Spell Scribing: A [[Wizard]] who finds a scroll for a spell they do not know may permanently copy that spell to their spellbook at the cost of 50gp per level of the spell. This also consumes the scroll.

** This is reduced to 25gp per spell level for spells belonging to the same school as the Wizard's subclass ''(see [[Wizard#Level 2|Wizard]] for subclass options)''.

*Some scrolls that are used to cast spells such as [[Eyebite]], spells that give the ability to choose different variants of the spell to cast, cannot be used out of the characters inventory and have to first be put on the character hotbar.
