Talk:Throw
throw calculation is off.[edit source]
the calculation is (str*.2)*str meaning a 18 str character can throw an item with a weight of exactly 64.8kg, and a 10 str one can only toss an item of at max 20 kg.
i only did the math for the metric i assume it wouldn't have a clean way to calculate it in lbs just the metric then convert
Check/attack mechanics when throwing a creature should be added here[edit source]
According the ingame tooltip the success of throwing a creature is decided by an Athletics skill check. The shown DC value is clearly incorrect as it is always 0. The shown skill check for attacker is Athletics, and it is most likely correct. I suspect the DC is just the defenders Athletics (or Acrobatics or most likely higher of them) skill check value, though I'm not sure. However, if attacker's skill check is shown correctly, the I'm sure that the DC is not a fixed value because the same value for attacker's skill check can mean failure or success in different throw attempts.
If this is verified to be an Athlete/Acrobatics check, the info should be added also to Athlete and Acrobatics pages and preferably also to Tavern Brawler page. Pjotr of the East (talk) 18:27, 13 March 2025 (CET)
- Yes, there are two rolls involved with throwing a non-willing creature. First is the contested athletics check to see if the throw is attempted, and then the attack roll. For the contested skill check, everything in Shove#Roll applies here as well (including the erroneously displayed DC).
- The information on that page should be included here as well, but I think it is worth rewriting this page into a full-fledged article similar to the Shove page. NtCarlson (talk) 19:01, 13 March 2025 (CET)
- Oh, I had not read that article. Is the attack roll just for the cases when you try to hit something with the thrown creature?
- A more thorough version on this article would definitely be useful. Here's a couple discrepancies that should me mentioned (and dealt with more thorougly):
- Invisibility does not give advantage for throwing.
- Enlarged (did not test Reduced) does not increase maximum weight for throwing.

- Does the contested check use acrobatics if it's higher (like shove)? Either way, definitely worth adding a note in the throw page to talk about the contested check. 124.149.72.231 09:20, 24 May 2025 (CEST)
