Nere's Head

Nere's Head is a Story Item which can be obtained during the quest ⁠Deliver Nere's Head.

Prideful as he was in life, Nere is just like anybody else in death - mouth slack, eyes bulging, and flesh that is slowly starting to rot.

Properties

Nere's Head is a quest item, required to complete ⁠Deliver Nere's Head.
- The head can only be looted from  Nere's corpse if the quest is active and it has not previously been destroyed.
- It is possible to kill Nere, loot his corpse, acquire the quest, and then return to collect his head.
  - The party may also carry Nere's corpse to the quest giver and loot his head from inventory (it is important not to drop the corpse around the Myconids, as this may turn them hostile).
- If Nere's head is destroyed, the quest fails.
Nere's head is destroyed if he burns to ash in  Lava.
- He can be killed while in lava, or even by it without necessarily burning to ash. For details, see Lava#Notes.
- As a rule, any creature killed by fire damage burns to ash; counterintuitively, lava can form an exception, see Lava#Notes.
- If Nere burns to ash from a source that is not lava, he is rendered unavailable for  Speak with Dead, but his head remains intact.
Obtaining Nere's head grants the ⁠Head of the Snake inspiration to party members with the  Haunted One background.
After delivering Nere's Head, it is transformed into:  Blooming Drow Head
