Notes
- NPCs that die from Melting burn to ash and:
- can no longer be targeted by Speak with Dead
- gain a charred appearance offset with patches of glowing orange when inspected
- may loose certain items
- Most notably Nere's Head becomes unavailable if he burns to ash by melting, failing Deliver Nere's Head
- Characters do not burn to ash if they:
- are a party member
- die from damage other than fire while standing in lava
- are displaced into lava through certain mechanisms and die immediately from the damage taken (i.e. on the displacer's turn). The key factor appears to be that "killed while downed" overrides burning to ash. A non-exhaustive list includes:
- being Thrown does not trigger burning to ash. Neither does Telekinesis.
- being Shoved does trigger burning to ash, as do Boot of the Giants and Mobile Flourish (Ranged)
- displacement methods that would otherwise trigger burning to ash, do not do so if the target is already Prone
