The Fancy Footwork achievement requires the player to defeat Enver Gortash without activating any traps.
Strategies[edit | edit source]
Pre-Triggering Traps[edit | edit source]
When approaching the confrontation in the citadel of the fortress, it is possible to hang back in the staging room and eliminate a majority of the traps by manually targeting them prior to the fight (Ctrl key) with a ranged weapon. The simplest, direct path to this fight is to follow the cliff face to some vines, climb them and some scaffolding to the top level. There are two obvious floor traps to avoid but once in the 'boss room' the floor traps are no longer a concern. Methodically clearing a safe space in this room and just on the other side of the entryway removes the threat of grenade and flame traps, proximity triggered AoEs, making attempts much more likely to succeed.
Herd and Throw[edit | edit source]
One of the easiest ways to do this is by positioning a character who can cast Spirit Guardians next to him before his coronation. Because neutral NPCs will avoid being in areas affected by Spirit Guardians, it is possible to cast Spirit Guardians and herd him onto the balcony behind the audience hall without turning any NPCs hostile.
From there, a character with Elixir of Hill Giant Strength can throw him off of the balcony. It is possible for this to instantly kill him in explorer, but this strategy has not been tested on other difficulties.
Killing him in this way will turn the entirety of Wyrm's Rock Fortress hostile, making it impossible to rescue the grand duke; it also becomes impossible to save the prisoners from the Iron Throne. Because this makes a potential ally unavailable, players may want to save before the coronation and reload after completing the achievement.
