Savage Attacker is a passive feature provided by the feat of the same name. Your attacks become more fierce, and you deal damage at a higher level than usual when dealing melee weapon damage.

Description

When making melee weapon attacks, you roll your damage dice twice and use the highest result.

How to learn

Granted by the feats: Savage Attacker (Feat)

Notes

  • When making a melee attack roll, this Passive Feature is known to affect damage riders (see Damage Mechanics) such as Divine Smite. Specifically, damage rolls for these damage riders are rolled twice for the higher result. Unknown if this mechanic interaction is bugged or intended.
  • As of patch 7 this feat does now apply to Sneak Attacks, Blade Flourishes, and Manoeuvres.
  • Each damage die is rolled twice independently, even for weapons that deal 2d6 damage.
    • For example if a 2d6 weapon rolls 1 and 5 rerolled respectively into 3 and 4, the total damage would be 3 + 5 = 8 and not 7.
  • This feat essentially means you have advantage on your damage rolls. The average bonus to your damage becomes, depending on what dice the weapon uses (for the math, see the math section on the advantage page):
    • Weapon deals 1d4 damage: average bonus damage is 0.625 (+25.0%)
    • Weapon deals 1d6 damage: average bonus damage is 0.972 (+27.8%)
    • Weapon deals 1d8 damage: average bonus damage is 1.313 (+29.2%)
    • Weapon deals 1d10 damage: average bonus damage is 1.650 (+30.0%)
    • Weapon deals 1d12 damage: average bonus damage is 1.986 (+30.6%)
    • Weapon deals 2d6 damage: average bonus damage is 1.944 (+27.8%)
    • For example, the Halberd of Vigilance (1d10 slashing damage and 1d4 force damage) which was dipped in fire (1d4 fire damage) will, on average, do 1.65 + 0.625 + 0.625 = 2.9 (+27.6%) more damage with Savage Attacker.
  • When throwing weapons with the Thrown property, Savage Attacker will apply to the roll for the base weapon damage, but not any additional damage riders such as Ring of Flinging.
