Magmar

Ward Magmar is a Duergar NPC who can be found in Grymforge. He is a member of Clan Flameshade.

Involvement

Ward Magmar can be found at X: -606 Y: 384, where he together with Ward Pistle guards the entrance to the elevator leading up to the Shadow-Cursed Lands. If the party try to access the elevator, a dialogue starts, and Magmar would ask whether the party has got a Moonlantern. It's the first mentioning about this type of defence against shadows within cursed territory through the game plot. However, if the party insists on using the elevator without lantern, Magmar won't be too diligent in performing his guarding duties and let them go through.

To while away the time, Magmar and Pistle maltreat the deep gnome slave by the name Skickpit, bossing him again and again to bring them both beer from the barrel that stands nearby, down the stairs.

If the party decides to free Skickpit, they will have to deal first with Magmar and Pistle one way or another. They may tussle with the guards, simply attacking them or pissing them off in the dialogue. The other option is to tamper the beer in the barrel with any available poison or toxin. The party may try and speak to the gnome. It will take three or four lines and possibly a Persuasion check to convince Skickpit that the party is really going to help. The party can also spike the beer straigtaway (but be sure no one watches, because the barrel is red-outlined). Either way, after drinking a pitcher of poisoned beer each, both Magmar and Pistle fall dead.

After both Wards die, Skickpit would speak to the party and ask what he's supposed to do next. If answered politely, he will present a vial of Wyvern Toxin.

Ward Magmar is a loyal member of the Clan Flameshade. Should the party conspire with Elder Brithvar against Nere, Magmar would join them against the drow and Duergar cult novices. However, he and Pistle are positioned too far from possible location of battle with Nere and his cronies.
