Way of Shadow is one of the subclasses of Monk. It can be chosen at level 3. These monks are more specialized in using the shadows to quietly strike their foes.

Subclass features[edit | edit source]

Monk's default armour
This subclass obtains all the features from its base class, Monk, in addition to its unique features outlined below.

Level 3

Minor Illusion Minor Illusion ()
Cast as a cantrip at will.
Shadow Arts: Hide Shadow Arts: Hide ()
Hide from enemies by succeeding at Stealth Stealth checks. Stick to the dark and avoid enemy sightlines. Attacking or casting a spell will reveal your location.
Shadow Arts: Pass Without Trace Shadow Arts: Pass Without Trace (+ 2)
Call forth a veil of shadow and silence that gives you and nearby allies a +10 bonus to Stealth Stealth checks.
Shadow Arts: Darkness Shadow Arts: Darkness (+ 2)
Create a cloud of magical darkness that Heavily Obscures Heavily Obscures and Blinds Blinds creatures within. Creatures cannot make ranged attacks into or out of it.
Shadow Arts: Darkvision Shadow Arts: Darkvision (+ 2)
Grant a creature the ability to see in the dark out to a range of 12 m / 40 ft.
Shadow Arts: Silence Shadow Arts: Silence (+ 2)
Create a sound-proof sphere. All within are Silenced Silenced and immune to Damage TypesThunder damage.

Level 5

Cloak of Shadows Cloak of Shadows ()
Wrap yourself in shadows to become Invisible Invisible if you are obscured.

Level 6

Shadow Step Shadow Step ()
Teleport from shadow to shadow. Afterwards, you have Advantage Icon.png Advantage on your next melee Attack roll.

Level 11

Shadow Strike Shadow Strike (+ 3)
Teleport to a foe from a hidden position, striking them with the creeping, psychic ferocity of the shadows themselves.

Teleport to a foe from a hidden position, striking them with the creeping, psychic ferocity of the shadows themselves.
