The player can meet Omeluum after talking to the Hobgoblin trader Blurg at Ebonlake Grotto. Blurg is a fellow scholar of the Society of Brilliance, who will bring Omeluum to help the player.

The player has several opportunities to attack Omeluum during dialogue, and some Companions might actually suggest it. If the player listens to Omeluum they will learn that it is a rogue member of its society who was born with special powers that allow it to resist the control of the Elder Brain of its colony. Omeluum feeds on the brains of cruel and sadistic creatures of the Underdark, and wishes to help the Illithid society by discovering a brain-free diet.

Should the player bring Omeluum the required ingredients, it will attempt to remove the tadpole. Omeluum will not only fail, but also make the tadpole more powerful. The Mindflayer will be surprised and worried about the power of the tadpole, and will apologize for not being of service. Omeluum will then offer to sell the Ring of Psionic Protection, which can limit the powers of the tadpole. The player can either buy this ring or convince Omeluum to give it to them.

Notes and Trivia

  • While BG3 refers to Omeluum as "he" at one point, it more frequently uses "it." As Illithid society doesn't particularly have a strong concept of gender, we've maintained the usage of "it" in this article to remain closer to Omeluum's ingame depiction. Pronouns in this article will be adjusted if/when this changes.
