Mind Flayer Pod on the Nautiloid

A Mind Flayer Pod is an Illithid device which allows mind flayers to keep their captives in order to conduct various experiments on them, including infesting the victim with larvae to create thralls or for further reproducing. Mind Flayer Pods can be found either on a Nautiloid or in the Mind Flayer Colony. The pods, as most other illithid devices, are operated by psionic abilities of these creatures - or of the player character's, who from the very start of the game learns to use their tadpole to these ends.

Prologue[edit section | visual editor]

In addition to the player character's own pod, they can find several others in the Nursery room of the prologue. Some are damaged and contain the remains of ill-fated victims, but others are intact and empty, which hints that other captives were able to escape. Interacting with both types of pods bring forth a respective Narrator line.

Exploring the Nautiloid further, the player character can discover several other intact and operational Mind Flayer Pods in other parts of the ship. In a sealed one of the pods ShadowheartShadowheart is trapped and agreeing to free her initiates Rescue the Illithid's CaptiveRescue the Illithid's Captive. Another pod contains an unknown unconscious woman, who cannot be saved. Instead, interacting with the nearby control panel transform this captive into a newborn mind flayer.

Act One[edit section | visual editor]

The party can discover two other ruptured, inactive Mind Flayer Pods scattered after Nautiloid crash: one at the Ravaged Beach at X: 175 Y: 274 and the other one in the Forest at X: 124 Y: 376.[1] The second one belonged to an unknown captive and is located on the bank of a brook flowing towards River Chionthar, across the Blighted Village.[2]

Act Two[edit section | visual editor]

A whole bunch of functional Mind Flayer Pods are located in Tadpoling Centre of the Mind Flayer Colony. Some of them are empty, some already keep newly created mind flayers, while others contain characters whom the party has met previously in Act One: ZevlorZevlor, Gauntlet YevaGauntlet Yeva, and Manip ShuurgaManip Shuurga. In the next room with several brine pools is a detached Pod which keeps MizoraMizora, who had been captured by Absolute cultists.
