Githyanki Slates
“Githyanki writing. Every word a wheel, every letter a spoke. The most powerful texts are engraved in slate - some so ancient, only the most erudite gish can read them„
Overview[edit | edit source]
The 
engrave their texts into slate disks in 
Tir'su, the written form of their language. A number of these slates can be encountered throughout the game. Most are explicitly described as including translations into common, the lingua franca of 
, or contain enough words in common that the meaning can be derived from context.[1]
Inscribed slates are pictorgraphic; either by design,[2] or because the text has become illegible with time, leaving the accompanying pictograms as the only way to 'read' them. Other exceptions are noted below.
Orpheus, Prince of the Comet[edit | edit source]
The story of Orpheus is told across three slates found in acts one and two:

- Orpheus, Prince of the Comet, Part Three: Resurrection
While part two contains a translation into common, parts one and three explicitly do not. They are written in a ancient Githyanki cypher stemming from their days of enslavement and are not neccisarily intelligable to those fluent in Tir'su.[3] They will each appear in inventory as Engraved Githyanki Disc until they have been read. To read them, the party can do any of the following:

- Pass an
DC 20 Investigation check check - Pass a DC 12 History check check with
Advantage - only available to Githyanki[4]
Inscribed Slates[edit | edit source]
All inscribed slates share the same name in game, making it challenging to distinguish between them. The parenthetical descriptions have been added for the purposes of the wiki, and do not appear in game. One of these discs, Inscribed Githyanki Slate (map), can be found in the and reveals the location of . The other four can be found in the and concern historical events. Listed in speculative chrological order of the events depicted, they are:

- Inscribed Githyanki Slate (Chained)
The 'Dragon' slate is only accessable when entering the 
Mysterious Artefact through the Planecaster. The other three are accessible both during the intermezzo between acts two and three and during the endgame if not retrieved earlier.
