Githyanki Slates

From bg3.wiki
Not to be confused with Githyanki Slate (item)

Githyanki Githyanki engrave their texts into slate disks in Tir'su, the written form of their language. A number of these slates can be encountered throughout the game. Most are explicitly described as including translations into common, the lingua franca of Faerûn Faerûn, or containing enough words in common that the meaning can be derived from context[1]. Inscribed slates are pictorgraphic; either by design[2], or because the text has become illegible with time, leaving the accompanying pictograms as the only way to 'read' them. Other exceptions are noted below.

Orpheus, Prince of the Comet edit

The story of Orpheus Orpheus is told across three slates found in acts one and two:

While part two contains a translation into common, parts one and three explicitly do not. They are written in a ancient Githyanki cypher stemming from their days of enslavement and are not neccisarily intelligable to those fluent in Tir'su.[3] They will each appear in inventory as Engraved Githyanki Disc until they have been read. To read them, the player can do any of the following:

Inscribed Slates edit

All inscribed slates share the same name in game, making it challenging to distinguish between them. The parenthetical descriptions have been added for the purposes of the wiki, and does not appear in game. One of these discs, Inscribed Githyanki Slate (map), can ben found in the Shadow-Cursed Lands Shadow-Cursed Lands and reveals the location of Crèche Y'llek Crèche Y'llek. The other four are located in the Astral Plane Astral Plane and concern historical events. Listed in speculative chrological order,[5] they are:

The 'Dragon' slate is only accessable when entering the Mysterious Artefact through the Planecaster. The other three are accessible both during the intermezzo between acts two and three and during the endgame if not retrieved earlier.

The Establishment of Crèche Y'llek edit

The following slates describe the scouting and concouring of Rosymorn Monastery Rosymorn Monastery by Githyanki who subsequently established Crèche Y'llek within its walls:

The Hunt for the Artifact edit

The following slates describe the Githyanki's search for the Mysterious Artifact:

Notes and references edit

  1. Notably the slate 'Intelligence concerning the weapon' is not translated, but contains the characters name repeatedly
  2. Such as in the case of the map to Crèche Y'llek
  3. Narration to Githyanki characters
  4. The character can't merely be disguised as a Githyanki, they must actually be one
  5. Of the events depicted
  6. Makes no note of containing a translation, but also anchronistically has the tooltip "This book is redolent with the enticing smell of paper and ink." so this may be an oversight
  7. Makes no note of containing a translation, but also appears to describe the torture of a Githyanki by Sharrans making it unclear why it is etched in slate to begin with
  8. Makes no note of containing a translation. Since it is addressed to the player, it was presumably authored in common
  9. A map distinct from the Inscribed Slate map
  10. By its content it appears that this was interned to be a Slate although it appears in game as a note
