Act Two

Balthazar can be encountered in the Gauntlet of Shar while progressing the Find Ketheric Thorm's Relic quest. Assuming the player doesn't attack him, the player can offer their help. Regardless of their help, if he's alive Balthazaar will appear again once the player successfully passes through the Gauntlet to the Shadowfell, having followed the player character. You have the option to help him kidnap the Nightsong or to fight him.

If the player helps Balthazar obtain the Nightsong and later meets with Ketheric, Ketheric will take the player prisoner. They will wake up in Balthazar's lab aboard the Mind Flayer Colony, where Balthazaar prepares to find a way to remove the artefact from the player's possession; ultimately, a fight between the player and Balthazar will break out.
