Zariel is a fallen angel and the archdevil ruler of Avernus, the first layer of the Nine Hells. She is yet to make a direct appearance in Baldur's Gate 3[1], but has innumerable impacts on the broader story of the world, and the history of many in-game characters.

Baldur's Gate: Descent into Avernus. The adventure takes place 10 years prior to the beginning of Baldur's Gate 3. - A loading screen tooltip says "Avernus, the first layer of the Nine Hells, is ruled by Zariel - a fallen angel turned archdevil."
