Darkvision
(Redirected from Darkvision (Passive Feature))
For the Way of the Shadow Monk feature, see Shadow Arts: Darkvision. For the Level 2 spell, see Darkvision (spell).

Darkvision is a passive feature that prevents Disadvantage when attacking creatures in the dark within 12 m (40 ft), or 24 m (80 ft) for Superior Darkvision. Some creatures have darkvision with custom range. Darkvision also affects obscurity mechanics.
Description
Can see in the dark up to 12 m (40 ft).

Notes
- The actual distance of Darkvision often depends on the creature that has this feature. The values above are the default for playable races.
- When a hiding creature enters the line of sight of a creature with darkvision, and is within the range of darkvision:
- Being Lightly Obscured counts as being under Clear Area instead.
- Being Heavily Obscured counts as being Lightly Obscured instead.
- The same applies to Superior Darkvision, just with a longer range.
- Also granted by Sarevok's Horned Helmet and Sunwalker's Gift.
- More information on Darkvision mechanics and its potential combat implications can be found here.
Bugs
- Normally, a creature gains Advantage when making a ranged attack from within magical Darkness, assuming it can do so via a feature such as Devil's Sight that grants vision in magical darkness. However, if the target of the attack has Darkvision, and the attacker is within the target's Darkvision range, then the attacker gains no advantage. This is despite the fact that Darkvision does not grant vision in magical darkness.
Brief preview
